GRZEGORZ (HRYHORIY) KRAWCZUK Peacefully on January 14, 2014 (Ukrainian New Years Day), surrounded by his family, Tato passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 87. Grzegorz was born in Oserdow, Sokal region, Western Ukraine on March 3, 1926. In 1947 his parents Teodozja and Ivan and his sister Hania were forcibly relocated into Northern Poland by the infamous "Akcja Wisla" while he was imprisoned in the concentration camp in Jaworzno, Poland. Upon his release in 1948, he joined his parents and started his life away from his beloved Ukraine. In 1956, Grzegorz married Anna (nee Sokolowski) and together they raised two children; Halyna and Miroslaw. Grzegorz worked for 32 years as a postmaster in Poland before immigrating to Canada in 1984 with his wife and son to join his daughter. Encountering a new language and culture did not prevent him from quickly establishing roots in Canada. He worked for the next 12 years at the Trident Press (Ukrainian Voice) in Winnipeg as a typesetter. Upon retirement in 1996, he devoted himself to his passionate hobbies: gardening, artisan cooking, history and current affairs in Ukraine and beyond. He was an active member of Sts. Volodomyr and Olha Metropolitan Cathedral. Despite many adversities and challenges, he always found the strength and time to support his family and encouraged his beloved grandchildren to pursue their dreams. Left to mourn his passing are his children: daughter Halyna Suchy (Jerry), son Miroslaw Krawczuk; grandchildren: Orest, Romana, Adrianna and Martha; sister Anna Sytnik (Poland); sisters-in-law: Emilia Foga (Teodor), Jadwiga Sokolowska; niece and nephews: Mira Kyber (Germany), Gienek and Slawomir and their respective families; as well as numerous other relatives in Canada, USA, Ukraine, Poland and Germany. Grzegorz was predeceased by his parents Teodozja and Ivan, his wife of 46 years Anna (2002), infant children: Irena and Roman, brother Vasyl (executed in NKVD prison, 1946), his brothers-in-law: Teodor, Hryhoriy and Andrzej, and sister-in-law Barbara. The family would like to thank Dr. T.R. Babick, Dr. S. Wong and the staff on the 4th floor (unit 6 and 7) as well as the Manitoba Home Care staff for their exceptional care. Prayers (Panahyda) will be sung at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 19 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday January 20, at Sts. Volodomyr and Olha Metropolitan Cathedral, 115 McGregor St., with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cathedral renovation fund or a charity of choice. KRYSTOS RAZDAYETSYA KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193
