THEODORE (TED) VANDENHEUVEL September 3, 1938 - January 15, 2014 Theodore (Ted) Vandenheuvel, 75 years of age, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Stonewall Hospital with his son by his side. Ted was born on September 3, 1938 in Haarlem, Netherlands. He came to Canada as a young man (18-19 years old), and a short time later he brought his family to Canada as well (March 1958). In 1956, Ted became a chef at the Royal Alec Hotel in Winnipeg for two to three years. During this time, a special moment for him was when he prepared dinner for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Prince Philip was so impressed with the meal, he requested to meet Ted. However his true passion was carpentry. He started his own business as a cabinet maker where he thrived for 40 plus years. Ted is survived by his children, Ted (Jackie), Susan, Terry, Kyle and Jarod; his siblings Han (Joan), Corrie (Bruce), Jan (Hank), Helene and Jane, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Cornelia and father Theodore. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Home, 433 Main Street, Stonewall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. MACKENZIE FUNERAL HOME STONEWALL 204-267-2525 mackhome@mts.net

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Ted was the best man at my wedding and a good friend especially in my younger days. Work, family and distance caused us to lose touch at the end. - Posted by: Reinhard Schilling (Friend) on: May 07, 2015

  • Ted was a wonderful friend for many years and we shared some really good times together. We went through many ups and downs with him and he was a loyal and honest friend. His cabinet making skills were second to none. Unfortunately we lost touch the last few years and not living in Manitoba any more, I did not hear of his death. I cherish his memory and offer my condolences. - Posted by: Irmgard Marsh (friend) on: Jan 16, 2015

  • We have raised many glasses of wine with you and enjoyed many meals with you. Hank and I have many warm memories of you and you will forever be in our hearts. - Posted by: Jan and Hank (Sister & brother-in-law) on: Jan 20, 2014

  • Thanks for the many discussions about "LIFE" while we drank coffee or shared a meal. Thank You most of all for paving the way for us in Canada. (May 1958). It was a good move. Bruce & I will treasure your woodwork in your memory. You will be missed. Your Sis Corrie - Posted by: Corrie (Sister) on: Jan 18, 2014
