Date of Passing: Jan 15, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH ANNIE STITCHELL (nee MCLAUGHLIN) February 25, 1921 ! January 15, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Betty Stitchell on January 15, 2014 at Beacon Hill Lodge. Betty was predeceased by her husband George in 1997. Betty will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter Beth (Geoff Bawden); step-grandchildren William and Sean; her lifelong friend Audrey Metcalfe; Audrey's children Robert, Valerie and Shelly; her special friend at Lindenwood Manor, Marion Corley. Also left to cherish her memory are extended family members including nieces Kathie, Pam and Ann; nephews Paul, David and Doug; grandnieces Rebecca and Kirsten; sister-in-law Ann who all came to Winnipeg to see Betty over the last two year; cousins Gail and Tracy who offered a helping hand when needed and last but not least her favorite dog Gracie. Betty was born and raised in the north end of Winnipeg on McAdam Ave. She knew from the age of six that she wanted to be a nurse. She never strayed from her goal and graduated in 1943 from the Children's Hospital of Winnipeg. Betty worked as a nurse for over 30 years and had a variety of positions from obstetrics to running a medical center in a candy factory. Her job at the candy factory certainly made her popular with the younger generation. After Betty retired she enjoyed many years at the cottage at Nutamik Lake, also she was a very active bridge player and loved acting classes at the Good Neighbours Centre where she was a Founding Member. She also loved to travel with trips ranging from Portugal to Tunisia. Betty loved to mark milestones and for her seventy-fifth birthday she took her first balloon ride and on her eightieth birthday took her first ride on a snowmobile. Those who knew Betty will remember her for her compassion, her interest in others and her sense of humour. The family would like to thank the staff at Lindenwood Manor and Beacon Hill Lodge for their care and kindness. We would also like to thank Dr. Bergen, Betty's family physician for his professionalism, diligence and care over many years. If you wish to commemorate Betty's life, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. "Mum we will dearly miss you." Bardal Funeral Home and Crematorium 843 Sherbrook Street 204-774-7474 Condolences: www.bardal.ca

Beth - I don't know what it was, but something made me think of your mother and I searched for her. So very sorry for your loss. Doesn't surprise me in the least that she lived to 92. She was a life force. All through my childhood, "Aunty Betty" was my absolute favourite person and I was always very excited when I was told they were coming over or we were going to visit them. She always made me feel that I mattered, which was something I never got from my own family. She was also a complete hoot! I will always treasure my memories of her. - Best Regards, Lauren (nee Huber) - Posted by: Lauren McArthur (Daughter of friends) on: Jul 24, 2014

So very sorry on the loss of your dear mom, Beth. You two were so fortunate to be so close. I have such fond memories of how kind she was to me when I was new to Winnipeg. Her great sense of humour at life and her liveliness is what comes to mind when I think about Betty. Take care, Cheryl Gagnier - Posted by: Cheryl Gagnier () on: Jan 27, 2014

Hi Beth, Just want to offer my sympathy again on the loss of your mother. I remember her so well from our days in junior high and on. She was always so cheerful and friendly, and interested in everything. I know how much you will miss her. Sue - Posted by: Susan Darlington () on: Jan 27, 2014
