DIANE ELIZABETH MELNYK (nee CHERNOFF) Peacefully, after a lengthy, but hard fought battle, our wife, mother and grandmother passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Riverview Health Centre. We were extremely blessed to have Diane come into our lives and marry Dave on April 17, 1982. Diane quickly established herself as a wife and mother, taking on the challenges of bringing up her new family. Mom was thrown into her new life with Dad, and with great ease made his family and friends her own. It was with great respect, that throughout that journey, she always kept Mom Edna's memory alive in all our hearts. Mom was a woman with a great strength of character and faith, who loved being with her and Dad's very dear friends and above all else, our immediate family. She and Dad were able to escape earlier in their 32 year marriage to warmer climates, and later to numerous casino jaunts with their friends, but her true joy was in spending time with Dad, us kids and her grandkids, just enjoying each other's company and laughing at all of the antics that would ensue. Her quick wit, wise advice, and comforting arms will remain with us always. Left to cherish her loving and kind ways, are her husband, Dave; daughter, Donna (Richard); sons, Ken (Joanne) and Brian; grandchildren, Breanne (Matt), Jay (Sophia), Sarah, Emily, Alexis and Madison. Diane is also survived by two sisters, numerous in-laws, nephews, nieces, relatives and special friends. Mom was predeceased by her parents and one sister. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 24 at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Munroe Avenue at Watt Street. with Rev. Dr. M. Kwiatkowski officiating. Cremation will follow and interment will be held at Elmwood Cemetery at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, donations in Diane's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. May you rest with your angels.
