ANNA HARMS It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Anna Harms (nee Pauls) on January 18, 2014 at the age of 94. She will be missed and lovingly remembered by sons George (Erika) and Peter (Frances); grandchildren Rosalie (Bruce), Debbie (Dan), Stephen (Nikki) and Elisabeth; great-grandchildren Melissa, Matthew, Sierra and Eric, and many nieces and nephews. Anna was predeceased by her parents, her husband Victor, two sisters, and a brother. Oma loved baking (buns and platz especially) for her appreciative family. Her garden always flourished; its bounty was enjoyed by many. Oma's hands were always busy, knitting and crocheting as long as her eyesight allowed her to. We celebrate and cherish her unwavering commitment to family, faith and community. We wish to thank the staff of the N1 South Ward of Concordia Hospital for making Oma's last days more comfortable. The family also acknowledges the sensitive care Oma received from her roommate Margaret during her final hours. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Avenue. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anna's name to the Mennonite Central Committee or to a charity of your choice. Friends Funeral Service, 204-339-5555

I was thirteen years old when we arrived in Winnipeg on October 2, 1957. I think it was either Viktor or Peter (or both) that picked us up at the train station. We did not speak English and knew very little (nothing) of Canada. I remember many Sunday afternoons when either Viktor or Peter would pick us up and take us to one place or the other for a visit and supper and then return us in the evening. Shortly after we arrived in Winnipeg my sister Kathy got seriously ill (the flu I think) and Anna took care of her until she was well. I hope the rest of the family did not catch the bug. My mother relied heavily on Anna and Viktor, and Kaethie and Peter for advice and assistance. We are forever grateful. Thank you. George, you may remember when we sat at one of your bedroom windows and tried to identify the cars going by. I was totally clued out. For me horses would have been easer to identify. Fond memories. - Posted by: Herman Klassen (cousin) on: Jan 27, 2014

I have fond memories of Mrs. Harms while I was growing up. She lived directly across the street from us and my parents would get together with her often, just to talk. She was always so sweet and kind to us kids, welcoming us to play with her granddaughters when we were little. Her home always smelled of freshly baked breads and she was quick to offer a snack to all of us. My condolences to the family on her passing. She was a lovely woman and though I have not seen her in many years, I have never forgotten her sweet disposition nor her faith in God. She is with her Savior now and free of pain and suffering. May the Lord comfort all of you during this difficult time. - Posted by: Karen Dueck (Neighbor) on: Jan 23, 2014

Anna and Victor were already residents on Ian Place in North Kildonan when my husband and I moved there in June of 1960. I have fond memories of neighbourhood parties, afternoon teas, and just sitting on a neighbour's front steps in the evening to watch the kids play at their games. For as many years as she could, Anna continued to care for her yard and shovel her driveway. She was an amazing fun lady to know. Sincere condolences to George and Peter and families. May pleasant memories bring comfort as you grieve your loss. Thinking of you at this time, Shirley Augustine. - Posted by: Shirley Augustine (Former neighbour on Ian Place, NK.) on: Jan 22, 2014

Having been neighbours at the cottage for many years we fondly remember pleasant times together. She made the best coffee boiled in an open pot. We are currently on vacation so are unable to attend the funeral. However, our thoughts are with the family at this sad time.GS - Posted by: John and shirley Hrechkosy (Friend) on: Jan 22, 2014
