RICK TABACHUK At the age of 52, sadly, Rick Tabachuk passed away with his family by his side on January 19, 2014 at Health Sciences Centre. He was born October 29, 1961 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He is survived by his wife Lisa, and sons Daniel and Ryan. He is also survived by his father-in-law Pete Friesen, mothers-in-law Susan Friesen and Antoinette Nolin, brothers-in-law Walter Myers and Ken Nolin (Janet), sisters-in-law Linda Ward (Bruce), Sheila Stupak (Mark) and Cyrena Friesen (Randy), as well as his four nieces, Kristin, Lindsay, Kelsey and Olivia, and nephew John. He was predeceased by his mother and father, John and Jean Tabachuk, first wife Sharon, and sister Joyce Myers. Rick's early career was with CN, followed by Mind Computers and most recently at Video King Entertainment as a Software Analyst. He made friends wherever he went; he loved to spend time with family most of all. He was also an avid sports fan and followed the Goldeyes, Bombers and his beloved Ottawa Senators. He spent many years coaching Daniel's and Ryan's baseball teams, loved carpentry and renovating his home with his father-in-law Pete. Throughout his battle with cancer, he stayed upbeat and positive, enjoyed every moment with family and loved to sit in the sunroom during the summer months. Nobody could have asked for a better husband, father, and friend. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Rick's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at The Nor-Villa Hotel Banquet Room, 1763 Henderson Hwy. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Special thanks to his care team at CancerCare, Dr. Maksymiuk and Nurse Meghan.

Today marks the 1 year anniversary of Rick's passing. He was such a good friend. I miss his friendly banter, dumb jokes (and the good ones too), but most of all I miss just talking to him. Rick, you were a great friend. To honor your memory, today I will have a "Cheesy" John "Denver" sandwich and remember the stories you would tell. Missing you a lot, Gary K. - Posted by: Gary Klippenstein (Friend) on: Jan 19, 2015

I worked with Rick at Mind Computer Products. After I left we kept in contact with brief emails. We haven't chatted in probably 3 years. He was an amazing soul. One that would light up a room when he went into it, making friends everywhere he went. Rest now Rick and make the heavens smile! - Posted by: Jennifer Palichuk (co-worker) on: Sep 15, 2014

You will be missed big guy. You had a helluva sense of humor and made friends wherever you went. I'm lucky to have known you and the years have separated us but still thought of the days we had and missed your laugh. May you rest in peace and the sorrow of your departing be helped by the many family and friends for your wife and kids. - Posted by: Russ Howell (Worked with Rick and concidered him a good friend who we lost touch with) on: Feb 03, 2014

I was very saddened to hear of Ricks passing. I liked Rick the first time we met as rival coaches for our son's baseball teams. He was a good man who will be deeply missed. My sincerest condolences to Daniel, Lisa, Ryan and the family. - Posted by: Dave Peterson (Friend from baseball) on: Jan 30, 2014

I had the pleasure of working with Rick for a few years at Video King. Always upbeat and always wonderful to be around. Loved coming to work and talking sports with Rick. Rick was always warm and welcoming, felt like I could talk to him about anything. I was having a tough time in my personal life and I needed someone to talk to right then and there. Rick was more than happy to help me out. I'll always appreciate his guidance, in regard to both work and personal. He will be missed - Posted by: Kyle Mailhot (co-worker) on: Jan 29, 2014

What a wonderful world it would be if we had more Ricks in it. It sounds like you taught lots of us what is most important for the short time we are here. In our time together if he wasn't taking a keen interest in my stories he spoke with pride and fondness of his family which was clearly his glue. - Posted by: Sally Brodrick () on: Jan 28, 2014

I was introduced to Rick by a neighbour. We had coffee together on Saturdays at Tim Hortons on Gateway. Rick was an extremely gentle man, with a great sense of humour, and such a warm smile and greeting. Sincere condolences to his wife and two sons whom he loved dearly and spoke of them consistently. - Posted by: Robin Gilmour (Aquaintannce) on: Jan 25, 2014

I worked with Rick at CN and have fond memories of that time. We remained friends and met every year priot to Christmas as a small group to catch up, laugh and share life events. Sadly we missed this year's outing. We will forever miss Rick and the character that he was. Kirk - Posted by: Kirk Luke (Friend ) on: Jan 25, 2014

I had the pleasure of working with Rick at Video King for several years. He was always upbeat and would pitch in wherever he was needed. He was a hard worker and a gentleman. He spoke of his family often and was very proud of his sons’ accomplishments. After I left Video King; we ran into each other at Goldeyes games regularly. Rick was a great guy and he will be sadly missed. My condolences go out to Lisa and the boys. - Posted by: Len Ganetsky (Coworker) on: Jan 24, 2014

I'm so shocked & saddened to hear of your passing Rick. My deepest & sincerest condolences to all. I worked with Rick in the early 80's at CN and were friends, unfortunately we lost contact for years ,although we would meet randomly here & there. Rick was always happy and friendly just as I remember his dad, John. You will be sadly missed Rick. - Posted by: Tracy Gosselin (Friend) on: Jan 22, 2014

Rick was always a very friendly, kind, helpful and caring man. It was a pleasure to work along with him. He always had something to joke and laugh about. He treated others with respect and was respected back. Carol always called him "Tabby" because he was like a sweet kitty cat that would never hurt anyone. He worked, lived and loved for his family. He was very proud of Daniel and would show us pictures whenever he could. We are very happy that Lisa and Ryan came into his and Daniel's life. Our deepest condolences go to his family and all who loved him. - Posted by: Carol & Brian Eddie (past co-workers (Mind)) on: Jan 22, 2014
