KENNETH (KEN) BJORN JONASSON
Born: Sep 15, 1957
Date of Passing: Jan 20, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKENNETH (KEN) BJORN JONASSON September 15, 1957 - January 20, 2014 After suffering a terrible stroke January 9, 2014, Ken passed away peacefully and with dignity January 20, 2014 at Health Sciences Centre MICU. He was 56 years old. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marla (married 27 years) - daughters Hayley and Kelly whom he loved very much and always "wanted only the best for", as well as his much adored pets Zoey, Buddy and Blinky. He is also survived by his mom Florette and dad Art; brothers David and wife Jean (Denver), Jerry and wife Cathy (Calgary), and sister Joan and husband Richard (Winnipeg), along with nieces and nephews Cindy, Diane, Sandra, Colleen and their families, Jennifer, Jonathan and Michelle; brother-in-law Glen and wife Shelby (Logan, Jayda); sisters-in-law Lynn and husband Ron (Troy) and Julie (DJ, Derek); mother-in-law Olga Land, and aunt-in-law Jean Moskal, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, too many to mention. Ken was born September 15, 1957 and was raised in the West End. He attended Sargent Park, Daniel Mac and Tec Voc schools. He worked at Winnipeg Hydro and when they joined with Manitoba Hydro, he continued to work out of the Notre Dame office - street lighting department. He had just retired in October 2013, after 27 years, but sadly did not live long enough to enjoy it. Ken had "the gift of gab" and could talk to anyone about almost anything. He had a heart of gold and would give family and friends the shirt off his back or some item he was keeping around because "you never know who might need it." He loved animals especially dogs and cats and would often take dog treats from home for the many he'd come across while on the job. He'd often remark, "Mar, you should have seen the dog I saw today!..." and describe in detail the looks, breed and personality of the dog. Cats too, became a close second as he bonded with Blinky usually while on the downstairs computer. Special interests included mechanics - especially cars, lottery tickets, hamburgers and TV shows "Pawn Stars and Storage Wars." Many thank-you's to Winnipeg Paramedic Services and the Health Sciences Centre - MICU doctors and nurses - especially Robert, Bev, Edith, Erica and Lori for all that you did for Ken and us. We will miss him dearly. Private family service. No flowers please. Donations instead to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Winnipeg Humane Society in Ken's name. "Do something nice for someone and think of me."

I worked with Ken (burger) is what we called him, back in the Winnipeg Hydro days, he acquired the name burger, cause he loved hamburgers, he would always make time to talk and get caught up on events with those he hasn't seen in awhile, way too young, he will be missed and not forgotten by many. - Posted by: Ken Izzard (Co-worker and friend) on: Jan 26, 2014

My parents were good friends of Art and Flo's so sometimes would bring my sister and I along over to their house to play with Ken and Joanie as we were close in age. Wonderful memories of the family, and I was able to reconnect years later when Ken married Marla and I got to know her as well. So very shocked and saddened to hear of this, sincerest condolences to the whole family. Hugs to all. - Posted by: Tracey Hamin (Longtime family friend) on: Jan 25, 2014
