JACOB UNGER Peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 Jacob Unger, beloved husband of Elsie for 60 years, passed away at the age of 88 years at Concordia Hospital in the presence of family. Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters, Lorna, Marion (Carl) Classen, Karla (Bill Winogron); four grandchildren, Lauren (Steven), Meghan (Simon), Joel (Jenna), Adam; also two great-grandchildren, Rhys (three years) and Pia (three months). Jacob is also survived by five siblings, John, Marie, Anne, Waldie and Kathy; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street with viewing prior to the service. Reception to follow the service. Interment in Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Friends Funeral Service, 204-339-5555.

  • I remember spending a lot of weekends at the Ungers' cabin in Twin Beaches when I was growing up. Those were such good times! Jake introduced me to the fine art of cooking the perfect steak! I grew up with parents who would buy cheaper cuts and grill those steaks to the point of being overcooked. Not Jake! He took pride in his steak grilling. It was art!
