ANTHONY JOHN POOLEY On Monday, January 27, 2014 at the St. Boniface Hospital Anthony (Tony) passed away peacefully with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Karen, daughter Ashley, son Mitchell, parents Norman and Marlies, sisters Eva (Bruce), Ursula, brothers Peter, Gerald (Brigitte), Steven (Arlene), Bernard (Karin), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Anthony was born October 4, 1953 in his grandparent's home in Dagenham, England. He along with his family first moved to Winnipeg 1957, returning to England in 1965 where they then travelled to Welkom, South Africa in 1966. Returning to England in 1970 where he worked at Barkley's Bank London. The Pooley family returned to Canada in 1972. Tony's career began at the Canadian Wheat Board in February 1973 until his retirement, September 2012. Tony loved to attend his children's music, sporting events and whisking the family away each summer to Gimli. He was passionate about soccer from being a fan, player and coach. He had many (well known) ways of expressing himself (most words needed to be censored) on and off the field. He enjoyed solving crosswords (especially recently with the .www), picking up a double/double and driving the family to many destinations. He loved to kid around with everyone, inside standing joke coins in the car for Dorothy (mother in-law) to find. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. Interment and a family gathering will be held at a later date. Thank you to the staff at St. Boniface 7AWest for the special care given to Tony. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tony's name to the CancerCare Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • Tony was a great neighbor. There were many times we would be doing yard work and he would come out to talk and end up offering to help. Beer was an acceptable payment. He had great one-liners and he always had a funny story to tell. We will miss our conversations and his outlook on life. - Posted by: Nicole Glena (neighbour) on: Feb 11, 2014

  • Wow!!!! Uncle Tony was an amazing man, always making everyone laugh and cracking the most funniest jokes!!!! Uncle Tony is always going to be missed but never forgotten, he was a big fan of Vancouver and when he came for our wedding in 2010 he fell even more in love. We loved to see him come and visit us and it was always a pleasure spending time with him. We love you guys a lot, Aunty Karen, Ashley and Mitchell. Always and forever loved Rupa, David & Julian ;) - Posted by: Rupa, David & Julian Marcus (Newphew & family ) on: Feb 11, 2014

  • Our condolences on the passing of a compassionate, funny, caring husband and father. We spent many evenings together at Seven Oaks Hospital. Tony was invariably a bright spot in our day, helping out whenever possible and cracking jokes to lighten what could become long, worrisome days. He will be sorely missed by many. We are so sorry. - Posted by: The Arason Family (Edith, Greg, Eileen, Nancy) () on: Feb 03, 2014

  • Tony, Karen, Ashley and Mitchell were our neighbours at Autumnwood RV Park in Gimli. We spent fun days at the beach with them. Tony was always clowning around with the kids and we never knew when he might appear at our trailer door. He was always the jokester. We were shocked and saddened to hear of Tony's passing. Our condolences go out to Karen, Ashley and Mitchell. - Posted by: Brian and Vicki McLarty (Friends from Autumnwood) on: Feb 03, 2014

  • Always enjoyed my conversations with Tony, he always made me laugh. I was so sad to hear of his passing as I had just seen him in the summer at the Seven Oaks Hospital while I was visiting my grandma. He quickly became friends with my parents and my aunt, enjoying each others company and conversation during their smoking sessions and I would hear of what a funny guy he was and I had to agree. Great person, will be sadly missed by many, my condolences to the family during this difficult time. - Posted by: Kerrie Zilkowsky (co-worker CWB) on: Feb 03, 2014

  • I will always remember Tony as being that hilarious family member I always looked forward to seeing whenever I came in to work. We met at Seven Oaks Hospital while providing care for his mother-in-law. He always made fun of how young I look, getting more and more creative with his comments as the days went by. He really touched my heart and I will always remember him. I am so saddened to hear about his passing and my condolences go out to his family. I will miss him and all the jokes we shared. RIP Tony - Posted by: Jovana Boskovic (Nurse) on: Feb 02, 2014

  • Tony was always so great to be around. He always joked around with all of the staff and made our days a little brighter. The staff of Seven Oaks Hospital (Level 4, Units 1, 2, and 3) will miss Tony and his great sense of humour. Our condolences go out to his family. He will never be forgotten. - Posted by: Seven Oaks Hospital Staff (Staff) on: Feb 02, 2014

  • Tony was always a cool character. I enjoyed his morning visits to the reception desk before going for his morning smoke. Always had some funny remarks to make my day. would go out, no coat on in winterpeg, smoke and come back in without a shiver...what a cool dude he was. And a heart of gold, only person to offer his coat to me as fire warden standing in the frigid outside. My heart goes out to the family. - Posted by: Diane Davis (friend/co-worker) on: Feb 02, 2014

  • Sorry to hear of your loss. I knew Tony for 34+ years and always looked forward to his under the breath comments or jokes. His humor will truly be missed. In the early days the parties he would bring his brother Stephen and they would entertain with their quick wit and back flips, sometimes taking out a tv in the process. It was all in fun. Tony was an amazing soccer player and could run like the wind, it was a pleasure to watch him in his element. His love for his family was undeniable and his stories of Mitch were funny because I think Mitch gave him a run for his money. Like father, like son. It was a coincidence when Tony's parents moved in beside my parents, but it was a pleasure to talk to them, my sympathy for the loss of your son. A life cut too short! - Posted by: Lisa Cherney (Co-worker) on: Feb 01, 2014
