DANUTA (DIANE) CATELANIS (nee LABUDA) September 30, 1951 - February 5, 2014 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Diane peacefully passed away with her family by her side, at Seven Oaks Hospital, at the age 62. Left to mourn are her loving husband Jim of 38 years, son Dino (Christine), daughter Kathy and grandson Nicolas. One of the happiest times in Diane's life was when she became a Babcia. Diane absolutely loved and adored her grandson, Nicolas and was able to be there for his first year of life. Diane will also be remembered by her brothers Mitch (Krystyna) and Marek (Zofia), sister Halina (Janusz), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Diane was predeceased by her father Wladyslaw, mother Zofia, brothers Mirek and Andrzej and sister Janina. Diane was born in Przetoczyno, Poland in 1951 and later moved to Wejherowo, Poland, until immigrating to Canada in 1971. While living in Canada, Diane began work at a factory. In 1973, Diane met Jim and later got married in 1975. In 1977, they started their family and also began to own and operate the Yale restaurant. In 1982, they owned and operated the Wellington restaurant for many years. She later went on to work at Holy Family Nursing Home where she made many new friends. Diane was a selfless, easy going person who always put her family's needs first. Diane was also a very kind, warm and gentle person who could always be counted on to listen, give advice and help others whenever asked. Diane enjoyed mushroom picking, fishing and taking care of her beautiful flowers. Diane also loved socializing, shopping and visiting with her family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital, CancerCare - St. Boniface and Dr. Irena Darczewski, for all their compassionate care. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with viewing at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. Interment to follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery, 4387 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to CancerCare Manitoba in Diane's memory. VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIAM, (204) 668-3151

I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Diane, but I've worked with her son for a few years now. He's quite a fine young man which speaks to Diane's character having raised him that way. My deepest sympathies to Dino and your family at your time of loss. - Posted by: Diane Byrne (Friend of son Dino) on: Feb 10, 2014

It breaks my heart that I won't be able to talk to my aunt Danusia anymore. I will never forget her words and life advice she gave to me and to my siblings, especially over last year. Thank you for all the real life talk dear Ciociu. Rest in peace now...we love you forever. Uncle Jimmy, Kathy and Dino, our thoughts and prayers are with you. - Posted by: Kamila Labuda , Piotr and Ola Grubba (Niece) on: Feb 09, 2014

Diane was a very kind, warm and gentle person with whom we shared the pleasure of friendship. We met through work, stayed friends for life. She could always be counted on to listen, give advice and help others whenever asked. She spent many hours on the phone with Helena Pidwirnyj, those calls will be dearly missed. She touched our hearts and will be surely missed. Please accept our deepest condolences to family and friends.. We lived next to Jim and Diane for years. We watched Dino and Cathy grow up and enjoyed many dinners, BBQ's and drinks. Diane was an incredible spirit. Her love for family and friends was boundless. She was a wonderful help and friend to my parents and remained concerned and caring towards them even as her own health failed. I cannot express how sorry I am for the loss that Jim, Dino, Cathy and their family have suffered. I hope that they take solace in the thought that a person is never truly gone while the people they effected live on, Diane will be with us in the hearts of her family and friends forever. We will miss you. All our love, Trevor, Tara and Emerson. - Posted by: Trevor Horvath (Friend/neighbour ) on: Feb 08, 2014
