JOHN (JAN) TIEL July 1, 1932 February 8, 2014 Peacefully, in the early hours of February 8, 2014, at the age of 81, John Tiel was called home to his Lord and Saviour. John was predeceased by his parents Klaas and Nellie Tiel. John is lovingly remembered by his wife Laura (Vanderhooft) of 52 years; his children Fran (Ron) VanHeyst, Allan (Vicky) Tiel, Doug (Selina) Tiel, Glen (Colleen) Tiel; 14 grandchildren; two brothers; three sisters; in-laws; and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the staff at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg and Seven Oaks Hospital for their loving and compassionate care. A viewing will take place from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street. Memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Avenue with Rev. R. Anjema officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's name to CancerCare Manitoba or The Arthritis Society.

With sadness, my sympathies and condolences on the passing of a fine man, known by many people by many different names: Husband, Dad, Father-in-Law, Uncle, Grandfather and Friend. I didn't know him well, but, when he and Laura were over at Al & Vicky's, sitting outside on the patio having a nice summer Sunday afternoon lunch, I remember seeing and hearing lots of laughter, fun and great interaction with and around him . . . he was definitely enjoying himself!
