EDNA RETHA VAN NEST (nee LAROCHELLE) Our cherished mother passed into the hands of our Lord in peace and grace on Friday, February 7, 2014 with her family by her side. Predeceased by daughter Judy (1997), parents Clifford and Emma (nee Gay), brothers Arthur, Edward and Joseph. She leaves to mourn seven remaining children, Stephanie, Peter (Terri), Pamela (Chris), John (Cathy), Chuck (Linda), Dean, Barbara (Glen), their father Paul, nine grandchildren, Joshua, Hollie, Benjamin, Samantha, Ian, Tyler, Ethan, Vanessa, Erin, her beloved brother Murray, and numerous nieces and nephews. Edna was born November 29, 1930 in North Bay, Ontario and attended Notre Dame de Lourdes where she was taught by Les Filles de la Sagesse Order of Sisters. Her spiritual beliefs as a devout Catholic guided her life and all she did. She moved to Winnipeg in 1951 with her husband Paul. A devoted mother of eight who loved unconditionally, she dedicated her life to her family. Mum delighted in nature, and enjoyed working in Birds Hill Park for Manitoba Natural Resources during her career as a regional clerk. Mum loved family fishing outings, and spent many enjoyable weekends at her children's lake spots. Mum loved to travel, and cherished her trip of a lifetime to Rome and The Holy Land. She was an intelligent and voracious reader and loved to play bridge. A gregarious, energetic woman with a mind over matter approach and ready sense of humour, she was a joy to all who knew her. She will be forever missed and cherished. Thanks are expressed to doctor Joshua and nurses at Grace Hospital, and 4 East staff at Deer Lodge. Prayers will be held Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, #1 Hwy East at Navin Road. Funeral Mass will be Friday, February 14, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Parish, 315 Munroe Ave., interment to follow in Green Acres Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery (204) 222-3241 Condolences may be sent to www.greenacresfuneralhome.com
