OMER AIME BERNARDIN It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather on February 13, 2014 at the age of 87. The memory of Omer will be cherished by his wife Lila; children Guy (Arlene), Paul, Denis (Linda), grandchildren Kaitlyn, Ben, Corey, Colin, Julien, step-daughters Joan(Mike), Lynne and step-grandchildren Matthew, Steven, Scott and Tom. He will also be lovingly remembered by numerous brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces and friends. Omer was predeceased by his parents, Edouard and Delia, his first wife Marie-Jeanne, grandchildren Jessica and Justin, stepson Ken, sister Irene and brother Gerard. Omer retired from Arne's Welding at the age of 63, he also worked at Falcon Machine, Machine Design and Engineering and was a Production Foreman at Supercrete. Omer may have officially retired at 63, but he certainly never knew the meaning of the word. He looked forward to whatever work project the day would bring. He was unstoppable and very active every day until the age of 86. Omer loved to work with his hands and found immense satisfaction in building his house in St. Boniface and cottage in St. Malo, as well as, creating useful and practical things in his garage. He volunteered for the Festival du Voyageur and the YMCA for many years. Omer was an avid bowler and also exercised regularly at the YMCA. He and Lila enjoyed many trips throughout the years. Omer was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1985. Special thanks to the staff at St Boniface Hospital Palliative Care, Riverview Health Centre and the many Homecare workers involved in Omer's care. Funeral service will be conducted at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy. #1 East at Navin Road, Winnipeg, MB on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Green Acres Cemetery. Donations may be made in Omer's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
