THERESA (TOOTSIE) ARICHTEFF After a brief illness, Mom passed away peacefully at the age of 92, at the Victoria Hospital, on March 13, 2014. Theresa leaves to mourn her husband Ivan; sons Gerry (Nicole), Tommy and Teddy; grandchildren Lance, Thomas, Tommy, Corinna, Ashley and James; sister-in-law Betty Houle from Portage; great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. She will also be missed by a host of her nieces and nephews and their ever growing families in the Portage/Winnipeg area. She was predeceased by all of her siblings and her son Jimmy. Mom was born in Yorkton, SK and raised in Portage la Prairie, then moved to raise her family in Winnipeg. Theresa enjoyed her work career in the food services industry, mostly as the Supervisor of the St. Regis Hotel Dining Room / Restaurant. She then worked part-time at the Fort Rouge Curling Club in the food services department which she enjoyed until her retirement at 65. Mom became quite the traveler. Mom and Dad were able to travel overseas to Europe on three different excursions to experience and see so much history. She enjoyed traveling on the senior bus trips which she took all over North America along with her many trips to fabulous Las Vegas. Mom loved her penny and nickel slots and playing cards while visiting Portage. She also became very involved with crafts and loved creating her little projects for craft sales. In her very active life Mom also became a member of the Red Hats Society' and loved all her outings with the gals. She was fortunate to live a long, healthy life and she enjoyed it to the fullest and brought joy to all who knew her. She was quite the tough ole' prairie gal, our Mother. She will be missed very much by all of us. After a very good, long, active, independent life in the family homestead, old age simply caught up with Mom. As per her wishes, Theresa has been cremated and the family will be having a small memorial service for her in the near future. The family would also like to extend our gratitude to the Victoria Hospital 4th Floor staff who took the utmost care looking after our Mom. It was much appreciated. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • As kids we loved to visit John and Tootsie and we had many family dinners at their house back in the 50's. Tootsie always had a beautiful smile on her face and always loved to provide an awesome meal to the Davies clan. I wish all of the Arichteff members my sincerest condolences on the loss of a very beautiful woman. - Posted by: Corrine (Davies) Blackmore (My Dad, Ben Davies worked with Tootsie's husband (we knew him as John) at Baldry Engineering) on: Mar 21, 2014

  • I would pick up Auntie Tootsie at her house and drive her to Portage to spend a couple of days with Mom and my sisters, who would be waiting patiently for her arrival. We would play cards all day and into the early morning. What I enjoyed most was our talks we shared on the drive to Portage and then back home. I will miss her dearly. - Posted by: Linda Mulvey (Niece) on: Mar 15, 2014
