REINA RYBUCK Peacefully, with Mom Junko and Dad Cory at her side, it is with heavy hearts we announce the death of our wonderful eldest daughter who left us Wednesday, March 26, 2014 after bravely facing a five week illness in the Pediatric ICU ward at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. After nearly 11 years of beautiful memories, Reina leaves behind her loving parents, younger sister Terra; paternal grandparents Stan and Kathy Rybuck of Winnipeg; and maternal grandparents Seki and Eikichi Imaizumi of Tokyo. Carrying Reina in their hearts are Uncle Quintin; Aunty Carole; cousins Luke and Liam of Calgary along with Uncle Koichi; Aunty Mami and cousins Wataru and Ryu of Tokyo. There are scores of more aunties, uncles, cousins, and friends that loved Reina and whom Reina loved back. She was predeceased by paternal great-grandma Mathilda Jones and paternal great-uncle Walter Rybuck. All children are special and Reina was no exception. Always a happy baby, toddler and child, she was the quiet organizer. Everything had its place and family, with its history and tradition, was very important to Reina as she developed her own life pattern. Effort and achievement were also dear to her and she determinedly applied herself to everything she tried. Reina proved to be a talented painter and dancer, a strong swimmer and a diligent school student here and in Japan. She loved school and learning, spending much time reading and meticulously writing in her journals. She talked and wrote about becoming a bug scientist one day and had she chosen that or any other path Reina would have flourished. Among all her activities however, Reina's passion was soccer. She loved being on the field with her Bonivital Flames friends, gave her all and was becoming a student of the game as her ability and confidence grew. Most importantly though Reina was a kind and considerate person who cared about others and was always willing to help. She appreciated the bigger world she lived in and was interested in some day seeing much more of its peoples, cultures and wonders. At this time, a memorial is being planned for early May with details to follow later. The Rybucks send a special thank you to all the wonderful people in PICU, neurology, EEG and the Ronald McDonald family room who took tender care of Reina and us during this time. We know that Reina received the best care our world class system is capable of because of your dedication and professionalism. In lieu of flowers, persons wishing to remember Reina are asked to consider donating to Ronald McDonald House Manitoba. Years have gone by and I still have not forgotten Reina. I was in the same class as her at the time, and I was in complete shock when I heard the news. Playing soccer with her was and still is one of the greatest memories for me. I sincerely hope that she knows that she has not been forgotten, and I hope that her family is doing well. - Posted by: Jay Park (close friend) on: Apr 01, 2022

Reina was an amazing person to be with. I rarely got to see her, and visit her, but now I treasure those moments. When I first heard of her seizures I had just got home from school and my mom told me about it. I was worried but I thought would pull through and be ok. But as the weeks went on, and the news got worse I started getting more and more worried. A few days before her passing I was told she would be put off of life support, and would pass away. I couldn't believe it, and my family just sat in the living and sobbed. We all loved her so much, And we still love her. Rest in peace Reina. we all love you so so much. - Posted by: Liam Rybuck (Cousin) on: Aug 10, 2014

Sorry to hear, we will all miss her. Wish I could visit. When Camryn Overby told me the tragedy I didn't cry but after school I bawled. Wishing the parents the best. - Posted by: Aurora (best friends in grade 2) on: Jun 02, 2014

Reina was my daughter Lexa's friend from kindergarten, one of her first friends at school. She was sweet and kind and Lexa still talked about her all the time up until the day before we heard of her passing. We share in your sorrow at the loss of such a wonderful spirit and we will forever keep Reina in our hearts and memories. All our love, The Lee Family <3 - Posted by: Rachael Lee (Lexa's Mom) on: May 27, 2014

I was one of Reina's best friends in Wetaskiwin. I will always remember her by thinking about all the fun times - we would laugh, play and think about what we should do together the next day. I will miss her and I know that she is gone in real life but in my heart she is alive. - Posted by: Camryn Overby (Friend) on: May 25, 2014

Reina was a beautiful young girl, full of life and always smiling. I will always remember hearing the lively Japanese between her and her sister Terra over the fence. I think we are here on Earth to try to perfect ourselves and learn lessons, but she was too perfect and too smart too fast. She was on a path to incredible Grace and Intelligence, and I can picture in my head what an Incredibly beautiful woman she would have become. I can't even express how sorry I am for your loss, Junko, Cory, Terra and the rest of your family. From my family to yours, big huge hugs. She will be forever missed and loved - Posted by: Vickie Reid (Friend, old next door neighbor) on: Apr 28, 2014

Adam told me that Reina was a wonderful girl and extremely kind. Adam didn't get a chance to know her very well the year that they shared a classroom as Adam was sick for that year of school, but she made an everlasting impression. We are so sorry for your loss. Reina will be missed every day by many. - Posted by: Karen Isaak (mother of a previous classmate, Adam) on: Apr 12, 2014

You have all been in my thoughts and prayers for weeks now. I only wish that this had ended differently. Reina was always a joy to have around. Her quiet smiles will be missed by many around our building. Junko, please take all the time you need. I miss you, but you need to take care of yourself and your family more than anything right now. My greatest wish is that your hearts are filled with wonderful memories of the 10 years you got to spend with such an amazing young woman. - Posted by: Tara Kenny (Terra and Reina's school library assistant) on: Apr 10, 2014

My thoughts are with you. Reina was a great friend. She was the best at soccer. She was so creative, smart, funny and much more. I am blessed to call her a friend. You will be sadly missed and never forgotten. Your friend Mackenzie Reimer. - Posted by: Mackenzie (friend) on: Apr 09, 2014

Reina was very adorable, modest, yet very keen to learn Japanese. She always attended my Japanese class and was there to learn. Her smile was always bright. whenever I asked her to answer my question, she seemed so shy, but what she said always made me smile because her answer is just right. I will never forget when I was told by her mom that Reina told her, she enjoys my Japanese lessons. I would like to keep working hard for our heritage language program, so that I can contribute to students like Reina, who want to learn language, Japanese culture, and simply be a wonderful person in our life. I really do miss you, Reina. - Posted by: Tatsuya Goto (Her former Japanese Teacher/Language Program Coordinator) on: Apr 09, 2014

Reina was one of the brightest students in my Japanese class. She was able to read and write about 300 Japanese letters (kanji). Her conversation was very smooth as for her pronunciation, it was simply perfect. Her writing and drawing were excellent. I enjoyed so much reading your diary. I was planning to do many different new things in my class with Reina but unfortunately I won't be able to do so. Reina, I will never forget you and I will always remember you. You can see me from heaven now. I promise I will keep class running and make it more interesting, as you were there. Your Mom and sister, Terra can always count on my support. Dear Reina you will stay in my heart forever. - Posted by: Akiko Onishi Mrsa (Japanese Language school teacher) on: Apr 08, 2014

We are so deeply saddened by Reina's passing. Many tears have been shed in our home for the loss of such a lovely little girl. Reina, Terra and our daughter Kanna spent many hours of laughter and joy on our little farm, jumping on the trampoline and running through water sprinklers and playing with dogs. We will never forget her spirit... and and our farm will be forever honoured by the love she showered on all of us. Her passing too soon... and so sad though they are will never erase the mark she left on our hearts. - Posted by: Will & Mika Munsey (Friends) on: Apr 07, 2014

Reina was a good friend to me in grade 2 and 3. Although I only knew her for a short time I will always remember how kind and intelligent she was. I am grateful for the friendship we had. - Posted by: Alyssa Warkentin (School friend) on: Apr 07, 2014

First time I met her, she was one year old. Reina was my daughter's very first friend. I remember Reina's beautiful curious eyes, tiptoe, fluffy brown hair and pink chubby cheeks. I am thankful we had the oppotunity to know her, spend time with her. We will not forget Reina. Our deepest condolences to Junko-san, Cory, Terra and family. - Posted by: Chika Kambara-Bowler (Friend) on: Apr 06, 2014

I wish Reina hadn't died and that I could see her one last time. She was my BSFF (best soccer friend forever). She was my friend even, more than my friend, she was part of our soccer team. And our soccer team is a lot more than just a team we are like family. Now when I play soccer, I will think of her and I will try to win for her. So now she is in a better place and I hope she can keep playing. - Posted by: Alexi (Soccer friend) on: Apr 06, 2014

I remember when I met Reina, we were both the same age at the time and the first thing I thought was that I have a relative finally who is exactly the same age as me. She was flower blooming and growing each day. She had a passion for everything including being a great cousin. I remember we laughed and chatted and always had fun. I hope she has a great life in heaven and a big field to kick soccer balls on. Rest in peace Reina. Our deepest condolences to Junko,Cory and her little, fun loving, sister Terra. - Posted by: Avairy Rybuck (Cousin) on: Apr 05, 2014
