ADRIA BURKHARDT It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Adria Burkhardt at the Deer Lodge Personal Care Home on May 6, 2014, at the age of 72. Adria will be lovingly remembered by her cousins and many friends in Winnipeg, especially her best friend Mike Dow. She was predeceased by her father Frederick Burkhardt, and mother Christina (nee Loeb). She was born February 7, 1942 in Lydiatt, Manitoba, where she grew up and went to school. She completed her High School education in Beausejour, and in 1961 she graduated from Teacher's College, and taught in several rural schools. Teaching became her passion. In 1968 she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Winnipeg. In 1996, she completed her Bachelor of Education at the University of Manitoba. She taught at Red River Community College for a number of years. Even though Adria was born with some physical problems which she struggled with her whole life, she never let that stand in her way. She grew up on her parent's farm in Lydiatt, where she learned many life skills, and became a very independent person. She learned to play the piano accordion as a child, and learned to sew, and embroider. She loved music, and in recent years she became a regular at some of the coffee houses in Winnipeg, where she and her friend Mike shared many good times with their Winnipeg friends. She loved meeting people, nobody was a stranger. She loved to travel, and earlier in life when her health allowed, she explored many places in Canada, the U.S.A., the Caribbean, and even Europe. She and Mike loved to take in the Festival du Voyageur each year. The family wishes to thank the staff of Deer Lodge W4 for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in St. John Lutheran Church in Lydiatt, Manitoba with Pastor A. Maier officiating.
