MURRAY BROWN Murray passed away peacefully at his residence on May 27, 2014 at the age of 85. Murray was born in Russell, Manitoba to George and Eva Brown and spent many happy times as a young boy on his uncle's farm in Newdale, MB. Murray worked for MTS for over 20 years, followed by a number of years in sales. He finished the last 15 years of his working life as an owner operator of his courier business EMBEE Enterprises. Murray had an incredible zest for life and always had a unrelenting competitive spirit. He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing and curling but was most passionate with his involvement in the activities of his grandsons. Murray was predeceased in 2003 by Joan, his loving wife of 50 years. He will be missed by his daughter Nancy, son Todd (Nancy) and grandsons Graham, Taylor, Hayden (Lisa), Lyle and special great-grandson Parker. A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, 88 Hespeler Ave., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I met Murray through a member of my family. He's the most hilarious man I've ever known. He attended my wedding social in an arm sling when people half his age did not. He was at my wedding and we have watched many memorable Football games together. Murray taught me to live life to the fullest. To me, he'll always be the legendary, DOWNTOWN MURRAY BROWN! - Posted by: Ed Federau (Friend) on: Jun 02, 2014

  • Very saddened to hear of Murray's passing. Sorry I was not able to attend the service on Saturday. Murray lived life to the fullest. We should all take note of his youthful exurbance to everything he did. I remember playing golf with Murray in a scramble event at Elmhurst. He had just gotten out of the hospital and was quite weak but that didn't stop him from enjoying the day and given his fellow team members the needle when we didn't perform up to Murray's expectations which were always very high. My sincere condolences to Nancy, Todd and the family. - Posted by: Rob MacDonald (Friend) on: Jun 02, 2014

  • I have been thinking of Murray all day since hearing the news. I'll never forget the first time I went fishing with Murray, he, Craig Stapon and I went fishing in Rush Bay for walleye, pike and bass. I have some great memories and great photos of that occasion and other outings, including the many Canadian Esox Association outings that Murray attended. As Derek noted, Murray had us laughing so hard whenever we got together, he had a quick wit and was a joy to be around. He had some really interesting experiences in his life and could spin a story in a way that commanded attention. I was always impressed how ready he was to "fish hard-core" for musky when guys 1/4 of his age backed out. More than one Club member expressed our hope that we are able to fish for musky when we reach Murray's age. My only regret was that I didn't get out golfing with him. To Murray's family, my wife and I offer our sincere condolences. To my fellow fishing and golfing fanatic... Murray, have a great fins and skins time in this next stage of your life!!!! - Posted by: Mark Ruml / Vice-President Canadian Esox Association (Fishing buddy) on: May 30, 2014

  • On behalf of the CEA, Murray was the "Elder Statesman", and, probably the most spirited and witty member of our fishing club, the Canadian Esox Association. He was a real pleasure to have in our club, and his passion for life and good spirits were contagious. His stories of old and hilarious jokes and wise cracks brought some of the biggest laughs I can remember. I remember especially when he caught his first musky while fishing with fellow member, Bob H., in Minaki, Ontario. Our deepest sympathies go out to Murray's family and friends. He will be greatly missed, Murray's friends in the Canadian Esox Association. - Posted by: Derek Schmidtke / Canadian Esox Association () on: May 30, 2014
