HAROLD EDWARD SCHAU
Date of Passing: Jun 11, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHAROLD EDWARD SCHAU We are very sad to announce the death of our Harold on June 11, 2014 at the age of 73. Harold died peacefully with family at his side. He leaves his loving wife of over 50 years, Phyllis (nee Harrisko), as well as his children Monica, Kim (Glenn), Denise (Tom), Heidi (Jake) and Bonnie (Donald), and his grandchildren Samantha, Veronica, Madeline, Schuyler, Remy, Riley and Zane. He was a beloved brother, uncle and friend. Dad/Pa shared many interests. He was an avid reader. He had a love of horse racing, playing cards, country music, road trips, blueberry picking and most importantly, spending time surrounded by his family. We cherished hearing his stories of growing up on the farm in Marchand, the many adventures of his youth and his grandchildren never tired of hearing about the "olden days". He fought a long hard fight. He passed with great dignity and we are so proud of him. We loved him well. Dad's favourite singer was George Jones and as per the song: NO ONE WILL EVER FILL HIS SHOES Following Harold's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6 or www.diabetes.ca.

I have very fond memories of the times our families spent together. Uncle Harold took the time to play with us as children, that meant a lot to me. I remember him as a kind and gentle uncle; And I will always remember his laugh. I love you Auntie Phyllis and I worry about how you can fill the part of life taken from you; But of course you are never alone. Uncle Harold loved you enough to last for many lifetimes. Your family is blessed to have you and all the wonderful love and memories that live forever. Love to all of you Monica Kim Denise Heidi and Bonnie now and always. - Posted by: Sandy Wells (Niece) on: Jun 16, 2014

I had the honor of knowing Harold and Phyllis for a few years. They raised 5 wonderful daughters which i had the pleasure of associating with on several occasions. They did a wonderful job as parents, Harold had so many reasons to be the proud man that he was. My heart goes out to his whole family. I know he will be missed by all that knew him. - Posted by: Blake (friend of family) on: Jun 16, 2014

I WILL ALWAYS SEE THE SMILE OF HAROLD IN MY MIND. BUMPING INTO HIM AND PHYLIS THROUGHOUT WINNIPEG WAS ALWAYS A TREAT. I AM SO GLAD I SAW HIM AND ALL MY OTHER COUSINS AT BIRD'S HILL LAST SUMMER. THE MOST SAD PART OF LIFE IS GETTING OLDER AND SEEING THE ONES WE LOVE GET OLDER, SUFFER FROM A DISEASE AND PASS AWAY. WE ALWAYS HAVE TO REMEMBER ALL THE GOOD TIMES, CRAZY THINGS THAT HAPPENED AND LAUGHING WITH THEM. THOSE TIMES WILL NEVER DIE. MY CONDOLENCES TO ALL MY COUSINS AND CHERISH ALL YOUR MEMORIES OF HAROLD. On behalf of the PD staff On behalf of the PD unit I want to send our prayers abd heartfelt condolensces to you and your family. Harold was a lovely, gentle, thoughtful, caring man. It was our priviledge to get to know him and yourself during his illness, and we will remember him fondly. He had a great sense of humor, a quick wit, and yes, lots of interesting stories. He loved all of you very much and I know you will miss him. Please take care of yourselves. - Posted by: Irmy Friesen (nurse and friend) on: Jun 16, 2014

Harold was one of the "big" cousins, more than 10 years older than I am, and ,as a child, I thought he was great. As an adult I learned to appreciate his approach to life and his wildly warped sense of humour. He will be missed. - Posted by: CHris Kalk (Cousin) on: Jun 15, 2014
