Date of Passing: Aug 22, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHLEEN MAY STAUB (nee FOX) It is with great heartfelt sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sibling and friend, Kathleen (Kathy) Staub on Friday, August 22, 2014. After numerous years battling several medical conditions, Kathleen went to be with her Lord. She leaves to mourn her husband Rick, daughters Jodi (Dallas) Kornelsen, Kristi (Kurt) Anaka and Tara (Jeremy) Rempel, grandchildren Jeremiah, Lily, Jude, Cian and Theo. She is survived by her mother, Margretta Fox of Pembina Place Personal Care Home, brothers Brian (Donna) of Vancouver, Clifford (Donna) of Swan River, along with sister Dessa (Larry) of Alberta and her numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Roland in 1997 and her sister Roletta (Reg) in 2013. Kathleen was born in Swan River, Manitoba on May 13, 1943 and grew up in the Birch River area except for a short period in British Columbia. After her graduation from high school Kathleen moved to Winnipeg to attend the Manitoba Teachers College, where she met her husband Rick in 1962. Kathleen and Rick came to know the Lord Jesus Christ in the late fall of 1963, which brought many positive changes to their lives. Kathleen began her teaching career at Harlington School near Minitonas, then onto Dauphin, where she married Rick on January 30, 1965 and began teaching at Whitmore School. The couple eventually settled in Winnipeg where she taught within the Fort Garry School Division for a couple years before moving to River East School Division where she taught until her retirement in 2003. She completed her B.A. and B.Ed. via summer school and evening classes. For many years Kathleen taught at Maple Leaf School on McIvor Avenue. Kathleen was a much loved and respected teacher and was voted as one of the Teachers of the Year in 2001. She brought out the best in her students and was greatly missed upon retirement. Kathleen was always an avid curler and golfer and was sporty and active until she could no longer play. Kathleen dearly loved her children and grandchildren and always made them feel special and welcome in her quiet, peaceful manner. The last nine years of Kathleen's life were difficult, as she experienced breast cancer, Parkinson's disease, and dementia. While hospitalized she suffered a stroke and a heart attack that finally took her life. Many thanks and blessings to all the doctors, nurses and staff at Concordia Hospital who did all they could to make her life full and enjoyable until the end. Kathleen was also a long-time attendee of McIvor Mennonite Brethren Church; 200 McIvor Avenue where a viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 1:00 p.m., with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Cremation and interment will follow the service at a later date. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to World Vision of Canada, Child Evangelism Fellowship of Manitoba, The Parkinson's Society of Manitoba or the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

Our family first met Mrs. Staub in 1995 when our eldest daughter was graced to be placed in her grade three classroom at Maple Leaf. She would end up teaching 3 of our 4 children at Maple Leaf always with enthusiasm and love. She was definitely a favorite teacher for our three. We all experienced Mrs. Staub's generosity of time, talents and friendship. I remember begging Kathy to stay another year so our youngest would also have Mrs. Staub for grade 3. She however, deservedly, wanted time to be with her family and enjoy her other passions. Our family sends our fondest thoughts to you and hopes that time and your memories will bring you peace.
