NELLIE BARTECKI (nee POTOSKI) May 4, 1928 - September 4, 2014 Peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, we are saddened to announce the passing of our Mother, Baba, and Great-Baba, who left us on September 4, 2014, at the age of 86. She was predeceased by her husband Walter, parents Andrew and Annie, siblings Steve Potoski, Mary (Andrew) Leschyshyn, Rosie (Kasper) Furgala, Dora (Mike) Kuslak, Peter Potoski, Catherine Bergman, Jean (Marvin) Isfjord, Billy Potoski, and in-laws Mike Parada, Bernice Potoski, Frank Luksic. Mom is survived and lovingly remembered by her children John (Lorraine), Tony (Donna), Michael (Susan), Victor (Jan), and Peter; grandchildren Rae-Allyn (Johnny), Jonathan (Tara), Desta (Ryan), Brent, Ashley (Gordon), Nicole, Brittney, and Caitlyn; great-grandchildren Logan, Lucas, Nathan, Hayden, Avery, and Neveah. Nellie also leaves to mourn her siblings Pearl Parada, Harry Potoski, Mike Potoski, Josie (Norman) Isfjord, Victor (Donna) Potoski, Eva Luksic and Sam (Lois) Potoski; in-laws Kay Potoski, Baldur Bergman. She will also be dearly missed by her numerous nieces and nephews, and her many friends at Sunrise Lodge. Nellie was born on May 4, 1928 on the family farm in Hnausa, MB. Being one of the eldest children from a very large family, she accepted the responsibility of caring for her many siblings early on in life. Nellie later married her neighbour, Walter, and together they raised five sons on their farm. Despite the many hardships that were endured, she learned to get by with very little, always keeping a smile on her face. Mom enjoyed many hobbies, such as knitting and cooking, and one of her greatest joys was her garden. She was always willing to share the fruits of her labour and liked to make borscht, perogies, holobtchi and pickles. Mom enjoyed many years on the farm, then later moved to Sunrise Lodge in Arborg, MB. With her big heart and contagious smile, she made many friends at the Lodge. While there, she enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, making crafts, and going on field trips. Above all else, Mom was proudest of her family. She will be deeply missed by us all. The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre 3E for their support and wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nellie's memory to CancerCare Manitoba. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 10:30 a.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Arborg, MB. Interment to follow at Jaroslow Cemetery.
