AUDREY SPEIDEL 1930 2014 On Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Tuxedo Villa, Audrey passed away at the age of 83 years. Audrey was born in Winnipeg on August 15, 1930, the only daughter of Charles and Margaret Pahl. She had one brother, Robert (Bob) who was born six years previously. Audrey was a good student in school growing up, and was active in her church's social groups. During The Second World War, her brother served overseas in the RCAF, and Audrey often spoke of the tension she and her parents felt during that time, as well as their relief when he came home safely. After Audrey graduated High School from West Kildonan Collegiate in 1947, she entered business school to learn typing and shorthand. A temporary job she took during her Christmas break convinced her it was much more profitable to work than to stay in school, so Audrey decided to pursue full-time employment from then on. She soon accepted a position as a stenographer with the Canadian Fire Insurance Company, spending 10 years there in total. During that time, she was active in the company bowling team, and helped plan their social outings. It was also during that time that Audrey and her friend Myrtle Goodchild embarked on a five-month vacation touring Europe. Audrey would often recall the many places she visited and the wonderful experiences she had. On September 30, 1955, Audrey married Charles Speidel. She continued to work for a short while afterwards, but with the arrival of their first son, John, in 1958, changed Audrey's focus to her family. In 1961, Audrey had her second son, Paul. While raising her family, Audrey became very active in Home and School events, frequently organizing and contributing to fundraisers. Once her sons were entering their teens, Audrey re-entered the workplace, taking a part-time job at Gray's Auction in Winnipeg. Audrey was able to celebrate her fiftieth wedding anniversary with Charles, plus a few more, before his passing. She was able to live most of her life in the home she and Charles shared for many years, before needing to spend her last two years at Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home. Audrey is survived by her son Paul. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg. • Paul, we were saddened to learn of your Mother's passing. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time. - Posted by: Ed and Wendy Sikora (Friends) on: Sep 20, 2014

  • Dear Paul I am so sorry to read of your Mom's death. She was quite a remarkable woman. Fearless. Intelligent. She had a great sense of humour. Of course, my observations are from someone who knew her only briefly but she was a woman who created a strong impression. You were such a good son to her. I hope that fact comforts you and gives you peace with her passing. - Posted by: Audrey Morton () on: Sep 20, 2014

  • I was so sorry to hear of Audrey's passing. She was my Mom's roommate at Tuxedo, and early on we often had coffee and treats with her and her son Paul in the games room. Condolences from Pam's Family. - Posted by: Lori Gregorash (friend) on: Sep 20, 2014
