ELIZABETH PHYLLIS BYCHUK (nee BULLOCK) September 30, 1934 - September 28, 2014 After a short but intense battle with cancer, it is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Phyllis Bychuk (nee Bullock) on Sunday, September 28, 2014, two days shy of her 80th birthday. Elizabeth (Betty) is predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Ronald, her parents and several brothers and sisters. Her love will live on in her sons, Derrick, Kurt (Faye), Randal (Robert) and two cherished grandchildren, Chandra and Bradin. Born in Portage la Prairie, the youngest of 10 children, mom often talked about life growing up and the times she shared with her parents and siblings. In 1961, Betty married the love of her life, Ronald, where they farmed in Lac du Bonnet for many years. The hardships of life were met by a strong work ethic and determination so they appreciated every penny earned. In 1980, they sold the farm and moved to a lovely home on the river where they would eventually retire. Mom has two surviving sisters, Millie (Don) Smith and her beloved 95 year-old sister Rose Dunn who she enjoyed weekly chats with. She also kept in contact with her surviving brother Lodge (Ivy) Bullock and her very dear sisters-in-law Shirley Barrett, Betty Bullock and Lovey (Bernie) Lefko. As well, keeping in contact with many nieces and nephews was important to her. Mom's actions spoke louder than words. There was always a delicious meal on the table, her kids were taken care of, the house was spotless and company was welcomed. Family meant everything. Her hobbies included knitting, crossword puzzles, playing the chord organ and video games. She especially loved trips to the casino where she always hoped to win big. Betty made people feel special. She loved children and they loved her. She adored her grandchildren. She never forgot a birthday and would be the first to pick up the phone to share the day's events with her close circle of family who became such a strong support system. She believed in kindness to others, in forgiveness and for accepting the realities of life, good and bad. Mom's legacy of love is seen in every smile and every tear shed for her. We know she is at peace with dad, dancing a polka and looking down upon all the lives she has touched. She loved with all her heart and left us knowing how loved she was. As per mom's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private interment will follow at a later date. Our family would like to thank all the caring staff at the Health Sciences Centre GH-6 for making mom feel cared for and special during her last days. If friends and family desire, donations can be made in her name to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, Ronald McDonald House or a charity that brings meaning to your life.
