JOSEPH ELIE KOROPAS It is with deep sadness and loving memories, we announce the peaceful passing of Joseph Elie Koropas, son, brother, husband, father and grandfather on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Joseph was born on September 22, 1933 in Saskatchewan. He moved to Winnipeg when he was five years old. He lived in the North End of the city and attended Faraday, Isaac Newton, graduating from Tec Voc High School. Joseph excelled in many sports and was a member of many school clubs. After graduation, he attended college to study Stenography. During college he worked alongside his dad, building many houses in the north end of the city. Upon graduation, he started his career with Russell Steel, starting as a stenographer and then moving up, becoming Sales Manager, over the years. To know Joe, was to know he was a people person. Sales were his career but meeting people and providing a service to them was his passion. Joe requested to return back into the sales field, to "his customers". He retired, after 42 years of service with Russell Steel, developing many lifelong friendships during his career. He met the love of his life, Nellie (Belbas), they fell in love and were married on September 14, 1957. Together, they raised three sons: Randy (Sandy), Gary (Maria) and Jason. They were blessed with five grandchildren: Scott, Nicole, Kaitlin, Makayla and Alyssa "The loves of his life". Family was everything to him and there are many wonderful memories of family events. One of his greatest prides was his cottage on 8th Avenue at Victoria Beach, which he built by hand and enjoyed for over 40 years. Joe had many interests in his life including carpentry, reading, crafts, sports, music, gardening and his great love for the outdoors. He was devoted to his faith and a long-time member of his church and served on many of it's committees. Joe, is no doubt an angel in heaven, but he was an angel on earth. Joe would tell you "Love your family no matter what, hold them close and always look for the good in everything!" Funeral Service to be held on Monday, November 3 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 1175 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba with Father Gene Maximiuk officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joseph can be made to his church: Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, or to a charity of your choice. "We love you, and will deeply miss you" CROPO 204-586-8044
