Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERALD (GERRY) ROBERT GREEN 1929 - 2014 After a 16 year battle with cancer, Gerry passed away at home on November 4, 2014, surrounded by his family. Gerry was born in Grandview November 9, 1929 to Clara and George Green. He is survived by wife Lois (nee Hall), daughter Karen (Steve) Armstrong, son Colin Robert (Bonnie) Green, grandson Sean (Tina) Armstrong, sister Margaret Moran, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Ross (Alice), George (Sarah), and Dick (Norma), and sisters Marian (Ken) Jasper, Dorothy (Herb) Johnson and Betty (Angus) McIver. A graduate of the Universities of Winnipeg and Manitoba, Gerry spent his working life as an educator and school administrator. Starting his career in a one-room schoolhouse, Gerry went on to teach in Binscarth and Winnipeg. He served as principal of Binscarth School and Springfield Heights in North Kildonan before transferring to the St. Boniface School Division as an assistant superintendent. In 1974 he accepted a position as an administrator with the Canadian Forces' school system in Germany, eventually serving as principal of the Senior School in Lahr. The family spent five wonderful years exploring Europe before returning to Winnipeg, where Gerry worked as an assistant superintendent with River East School Division. After his retirement Gerry and Lois indulged their passion for travel, exploring everywhere from Alaska to Asia in addition to returning to Europe several times to hike in the Black Forest. In recent years Gerry and Lois wintered in Victoria but spent most of their time in Winnipeg, where Gerry was a familiar sight in the neighbourhood walking his beloved huskies. A private family interment is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders, Agape Table or a charity of your choosing.

I will never forget Mr. Gerry Green. He was my teacher in Grade 9 and 10, at the Binscarth High School (1955-1957). Whenever anyone asks me who my favorite teacher was, I always say "Gerry Green"!! He was a wonderful example of what a teacher should and could be. He would drop little gems of wisdom that I still remember to this day. He was one of the reasons I became a teacher and that I taught for 28 years before retiring. When I returned to Winnipeg and was looking for a position, he advised me to go back to University and get my Special Education Certificate, which I did. He will be so missed by everyone, especially Lois and the family. He was a truly outstanding man and admired by all who knew him. - Posted by: Mary (Eshelby) McQueen (Former student in the Binscath High School (55-57)) on: Jan 15, 2015

My sincere condolences to you, Lois, and to your family. Marilyn just called to inform me of this sad news. Strange, but I had a 'feeling' something was not quite right-possibly because I had not had a cheery little comment on any e-mails recently by 'Ger'! You must be relieved that you 'moved' when you did... Do take care,Lois, and God Bless! I know you are strong, and have many happy memories to sustain you! I am not sad that Uncle Gerry is now with the angels as he is another guiding star now in my life. I can look up to him in the Australian sky. I will always remember the fond memories of Grandview days staying with Gramma & Grandad and Uncle Gerry. He taught me to swim in the river. I could do wonders with the dog paddle. We were allowed to go to his room out the back to talk stories. He was always a remarkable Uncle in my life and I was always interested in Lois & Gerry's adventures in Germany. Please pass on my love and hugs to all the family and it should be a celebration of my dear Uncle Gerry's life. He was an incredible person.
