LOLA DACQUISTO (BERTULLI)
Born: Aug 11, 1922
Date of Passing: Nov 14, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLOLA DACQUISTO (nee BERTULLI) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lola Dacquisto, 92, on November 14, 2014 with her family by her side at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. Left to cherish her loving memory are spouse Anthony and children David (Josée); Jon (Joy); Donald (Lisa); Laura (Ron); Michael (Holly); grandchildren Natalie, Emma, Nicolas, Luke, Sara, Lauren, John Daniel, Paul, Jude. Predeceased by her parents Attilio and Maria Bertulli and siblings Irene, Donald, Alfred, Emil and Almay. Born August 11, 1922 in Winnipeg, Lola attended Daniel McIntyre Collegiate and graduated from Business College as a Medical/Legal Secretary. She was proud to work for Doctor MacCharles at the Manitoba Clinic and as judicial secretary to Judge MacDonnel at the Manitoba Law Courts. Lola left the workforce to raise her five children before returning to work at the Federal Bureau of Pensions Advocates. Lola married Anthony Dacquisto on August 13, 1952 in Winnipeg. Happily married for 62 years, they shared passions for food, friendship, laughter and travel. Italy, Japan and Brazil were highlights, but Lola also enjoyed her experience living as a military wife in Churchill Manitoba. Lola was a great cook and welcomed family and friends to her table where they enjoyed feasts of handmade pasta and slow-simmered tomato sauce. Melt in your mouth lasagna of paper thin pasta and tiny hand-rolled meatballs was another specialty. Equally famous was her fried chicken and chocolate cake that left guests in a state of food-induced bliss. So many memories of our mother revolve around food that we were shocked to learn a few years ago that she never liked cooking. She made no secret though of her love for dining out, bravely trying new dishes and asking for more hot sauce. Lola was honest, open and caring. A moral compass, confident and wise oracle to a host of friends of all ages. Helping others was part of her DNA that she shared with her siblings and inherited from her parents who helped so many Italian newcomers get established in Winnipeg. A funeral service will be held at St. Ignatius Church, 255 Stafford Street, Winnipeg at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 21, 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ester House, Box 68022, RPO Osborne Village, Winnipeg, MB., R3L 2V9 or online at esterhousewinnipeg.ca/donate-now. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery (204) 222-3241 Condolences may be sent to www.greenacresfuneralhome.com

Our heart and prayers go out to the Dacquisto family in their recent loss of "Aunty Lola". My best memory was a special dinner we had with all the family, many many years ago. The food kept coming and coming, and I wondered when it was ever going to end. Thinking of all the family, my Mother Helen Lott, sends her love and condolences too. May Lola rest in peace with my Father Hugo Lott, who passed 21 years before her. Love to all the family. - Posted by: Teresa Savard(Lott) (cousin down the line) on: Dec 06, 2014

Dear Dacquisto family, my sincere sympathy at this sad time of your loss of sweet Lola. I was Lola and Tony's Deer Lodge friend. While Lola waited for Tony's daily visit she became anxious I spend time consoling her. It helped her but it helped me also. We became friends and I enjoyed their company. Especially last New Year's Eve where we shared a glass of wine together. God bless you Tony and family you are in my prayers, yours a fellow patient Helga - Posted by: Helga Cychmistruk (Friend) on: Nov 28, 2014

I am sad to hear of Aunty Lola's passing. I have very fond memories of family times together with her and Uncle Tony when they came to BC. I remember a beautiful, strong, yet so gentle and sweet Italian woman with so much love pouring out of her onto everyone around her. You would instantly feel at home and comfortable with her. Generous, bubbly warm and friendly, joyful, full of laughter. In her presence, we felt loved - the special family kind of love. Lola was a special person, you would know that as soon as you met her. And if you met her, you would never forget her. She had that special air of a 'good mom' about her. I have a feeling she will be a special guardian angel now. The image of her being, and the spirit of her beautiful soul will remain with me always. The last time I spoke with Aunty Lola was to invite the family to a reunion in BC, which regretfully, they could not attend. God bless you all in this difficult time, and know that we will miss her along with you. Love, Gina - Posted by: Gina Illsey (Lott) (Second cousin) on: Nov 23, 2014

Our condolences to the family. We will miss Lola. We shared a lot of special times with both her and Tony. Getting together on a weekly basis to play cards with my mom and dad. Yes there was always food around our tables. We often talk about the famous Lemon Pie Lola and Tony would bring us. It was the best! We will miss all those good times. Our hearts go out to you all as we know how hard this is for you. Love to you all from the D'Abramo Family. - Posted by: Tony and Teresa, Michael, Maria and Christina Lamorte (Friends) on: Nov 20, 2014

Beautiful words for a beautiful lady. Mrs. D. opened her home and heart to me and every friend her kids brought home. I have so many great memories of amazing meals and visits around that dining room table...for a small town girl away from her home and family, it was a safe and welcoming haven and Mr. and Mrs. D. made us all feel like we belonged. I come from a somewhat "reserved" family...it took me a while to get used to the volume and energy when the whole family was together...but it was a sight to behold....that is when Mrs. D. was in her glory....her kids and extra kids together...eating...laughing...debating....I feel very blessed to have a friend like Laura....my soul sister....who invited me in to the Dacquisto world. Mrs. D will be deeply missed....but she lives on in the kindness, compassion and warmth of her family. Hold her in your hearts as I hold you in mine.... - Posted by: Deb Maluk ("adopted" Ukrainian ) on: Nov 20, 2014
