JOAN KLYMKIW Joan Klymkiw, devoted mother, grandmother and wife, passed away November 29, 2014 after valiantly battling a lengthy illness. Joan's kindness was matched by her gentle demeanor, vibrant sense of humour and boundless capacity for love. Joan was born in Winnipeg on September 22, 1936 and raised in an atmosphere of nurturing and caring. Musically gifted, she studied violin at the Conservatory of Music and always had a love for the arts. She was an active member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ukrainian National Federation, O. Koshetz Choir and the St. Nicholas Church Choir. Accompanied by her daughter Joanne and grandson Nicholas, Joan often sought the beauty and solace of Leo Mol Gardens and alternately the vibrancy and activity at The Forks. One of her special adventures was visiting her son Greg and daughter-in-law Cynthia in the Unesco World Biosphere of Tobermory and enjoying its natural beauty with granddaughter Julia. She happily and proudly encouraged both of her musically-gifted grandchildren and took considerable joy in teaching violin to them. Joan also valued traveling the world with husband Julian and closer to home, she reveled in the fellowship of church teas, suppers and other functions within a variety of cultural institutions. Joan leaves behind husband Julian; children, Joanne (Brad) and Gregory (Cynthia); grandchildren, Nicholas and Julia; brother, Gerry Galazyk and a huge extended family. She was predeceased by her mother, Pearl Galazyk Drabchuk father, Nicholas Galazyk; stepfather, Joseph Drabchuk and sister, Sonja Guyda. Special thanks to cousin, Ron Taylor; neighbour, Bill Prokop and all other family members who assisted in this time of great need. Thanks also to Dr. Terry Babick, the doctors, nurses and staff at Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care Unit, the Health Sciences Centre and the St. Boniface and Victoria Hospitals. A private Funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverview Health Centre. Pallbearers are Shaun Boux, Michael Dobrowolski, Brad Guyda, Bob Harasym, Brad Kjernisted and Mark Klymkiw. Joan will be missed by all who knew and loved her, but we take solace in her spirit, which resides in all our hearts, now and forever. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193

  • Dear Julian, You may have forgotten me, but I met you when Fr. Joseph Pidskalny was Pastor at St. Nick's and I facilitated a Cantor's Course which you attended, either before or after your stroke. I visited your home and Joan was a gracious hostess. • I loved her. I only saw her a few times. Last time I saw her I was seven. I'm thirteen now. I never got to tell her how much she mattered to me. She still matters to me, she always will. - Posted by: Julia klymkiw (Grandoughter ) on: Dec 07, 2014

  • My condolences to Joan's family. I knew Joan and her family when we were young and attended violin lessons together at Bornoff Conservatory of Music. We lost touch for many years but saw each other occasionally during the past few years. I was very sad to hear of her passing. She was a beautiful lady. - Posted by: Darcia Clingingsmith (friend) on: Dec 03, 2014

  • Dear Julian, Joanne and Nicholas, Condolences on the passing of yor wife, mother and grandmother. Joan and I were childhood friends, both living on Aberdeen Avenue, and fellow violinists, aged 7 or 8. We studied together until our teens, played duets in music festivals and in concerts throughout Manitoba. I have many good memories of our times together in later years when we reconnected again. I was so very sad to hear of her passing. - Posted by: Darcia Clingingsmith (friend) on: Dec 03, 2014

  • Juli- was very sad to read of Joan's passing. She was a beautiful person and through the many years at Carlings and since Joan was always there by your side. Marg I will always fondly remember her as do our kids who have many fond memories of you two at all the parties, picnics, events, and that wonderful trip we all enjoyed in Hawaii together.
