EMELIE ELLEN BRYK
Born: Sep 15, 1922
Date of Passing: Dec 26, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEMELIE ELLEN BRYK Peacefully surrounded by her family in prayer on December 26, 2014 at Seven Oaks General Hospital, aged 92 years. Born Amelia Olena Bilous in Winnipeg on September 15, 1922, Emelie grew up on Selkirk Avenue in a loving, musical family. That nurturing environment created the Bilous Sisters Trio. With her twin sisters Anne and Irene, they performed in many festivals and won awards both as a trio and as individual performers. Emelie was blessed with a rich contralto voice. During the Second World War, the Bilous Sisters would work during the week and travel weekends performing for the troops stationed throughout Manitoba as part of "The City Hydro Victory Troupe". They also did a series of radio programs on CBC Radio. She was an original member of the James Duncan Singers who performed at the Hollow Mug International Inn for many years. She loved to sing throughout her life and enjoyed singing with her friends on Monday afternoons at Holy Family Home right up until her last week. After graduating from St. Mary's Academy she entered Angus Business College. She used her secretarial skills throughout her life. She worked for Northern Assurance Co, Imperial Optical and retail at Birks and Eaton's. Mom met her future husband Ray at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral where they married in September 1950. They built a home in St. James that same year. They were blessed with a son in 1959 and Mom stayed home for many years to take care of the household. They became active parishioners of St. Basil Ukrainian Catholic Church. Mom especially loved singing in the choir. She also served as the President of the UCWLC. When Ray formed Ray Bryk Realty, Mom provided all of the administrative services to ensure its smooth operation. In 1985 Ray suffered a stroke that took away his speech and for 15 years Emelie lovingly took care of him. In 1992, they moved into the new apartment, "The Towers" at Holy Family Home. They couldn't have found a better home. Mom was so happy to be part of a place where she could live her deep faith every day. Singing liturgy with the Sisters, volunteering to assist the residents and helping out to thank the volunteers after liturgy all brought her great purpose and joy. Of course she eagerly anticipated coffee with her friends every afternoon. Mom believed that her job as Baba was to spoil her two granddaughters. She was very successful fulfilling that role. She was very supportive and proud of all of their artistic, athletic and scholastic endeavors. Emelie was predeceased by her husband Raymond; her parents, Thomas and Genevieve Bilous; her brother, Dr. Roman Bilous and sisters, Anne Decurtins and Irene Lewis. She leaves to mourn her passing her son Thomas Bryk, her beloved daughter-in-law Donna Bryk, granddaughters Nykola Bryk of Toronto and Nina Bryk of Winnipeg. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 29 (tonight) at St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church, 35 Marcie St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 30, also at the Church with Very Rev Mark Gnutel officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. A special thanks to Dr. Brar, the emergency room and 3 U 6 staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lubov Foundation, Holy Family Home Building Fund or the charity of your choice. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193

Hi Tom, Sorry I did not know! Sorry I have not kept in contact. My fault. Anyways, your Mom was great! I remember the wagon wheels, the treats when we were having the marathon board games. How she would come over and visit with Mom and Dad just to sing their hearts out. I miss my Mom's Cheesecake! LOL. My e-mail is Theodore.Danyluk@gov.yk.ca. Love you, Ted - Posted by: Ted Danyluk (Friend) on: Jul 12, 2018
