JOSEPH HENRY LECHOWICZ Peacefully, Joseph Henry Lechowicz passed away on December 21, 2014, at Pine Falls Hospital. He is survived by his sister Wanda, daughters Judith and Beverly (David), grandchildren Samantha (Keith), Teresa (Mark), Caitlin, and James (JJ), great-grandchildren Mikayla, Landon and Lilyanna. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Helen, son Gary, brothers Ted and Bill. Dad was born April 22, 1926, in Ituna, Saskatchewan to Magdalene and Anthony Lechowicz. He was raised and educated in Angusville, MB and spent his early years hunting and fishing in the area. Joe started working as a power engineer at the mine in Flin Flon, MB, before moving to Winnipeg where he worked at Canada Packers Meats. He took a Class 2 power engineer's job at Carling O'Keefe breweries where he worked for over 30 years before retiring in 1990. In 1979 Joe and Helen bought property in Lake of the Woods, ON, where they built a cottage and spent many hours finishing it including a beautiful stone fireplace. Dad loved to fish with close friends at the lake and spent many hours there with his grandchildren as they grew up. The rocking chair on the porch put many of his grandchildren to sleep while singing You Are My Sunshine' or I Want a Girl'. In 2013 he moved to Traverse Bay where he had his own little cottage, where he spent his final months enjoying watching his three great-grandchildren. Dad, Joe, will always and forever be remembered with love by his family and friends. Our family would like to thank the nurses at Selkirk General Hospital for their kind care of dad. Cremation has taken place and no formal funeral will be held. 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Bev and Judy: So sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. What wonderful neighbours the Lechowiczes were on Churchill Drive. Your Dad always had a smile and both he and your Mom were super friends to share conversations and fun with. You will all miss him so much, but how great that you had him for so many years. I have many happy memories of the Lechowiczes. - Posted by: Wanda Jarvis (Friend from many years ago) on: Jan 08, 2015

  • Sorry to hear of Joe's passing but glad he lived a good life. Things haven't been the same at the lake since he left. He always had a smile on his face and always put one on yours. - Posted by: Brent and Karen Micholson (Friends and neighbors at lake of the Woods) on: Jan 07, 2015

  • I am very sorry to hear of Joe's passing. As a neighbour of your family on lake of the woods I have many memories of the situations we encountered that required assistance from each other. Winter or summer I could count on seeing Joe and that big smile of his. - Posted by: Dale Young (Friend ) on: Jan 06, 2015

  • Bev, my sympathy to you and your family. I remember your dad as a hard worker, a good father and how fussy he was about his cars, the Chrysler and Valiant and his friend Jojo. I was also sad to hear about your mom and Gary. Rick Thomas - Posted by: Rick Thomas (friend) on: Jan 04, 2015

  • Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to you Judy and Bev and Families. I just learned of his passing by reading the obituary. Your Dad was a super fellow. When I went to school and worked in Winnipeg for a number of years, I visited with your mom and dad. They always welcomed me with joy, generosity and fun. Since I moved back to Russell, our visits were numbered but on occasion I would visit with him on the phone. I always will remember your Dad as well as your Mom for their kindness and generosity. - Posted by: Marlene (Senko) & Lorne Pettitt Family (2nd cousin ) on: Jan 03, 2015
