Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNELLIE OKRAINEC 1917 - 2014 It saddens us to announce the passing of our mom, grandmother and great-grandmother, Nellie Okrainec on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the age of 97. She is survived by son Joe, daughters Millie (Dan) and Pat, stepson Earl, stepdaughters Eunice (Gordon), Eleanor (Shannon) and families, grandchildren, Brad (Brandi), Kerry, Danny (Patti) and Elaina (Dan), and great-grandchildren Jordan, Rachel, Holden, Hayden and Callie. Nellie was predeceased by her first and second husbands, Nick Gurniak and Dan Okrainec, parents Andrew and Mary Olynick, brothers John (Olga), Mike (Ann), Pete and sisters Joyce, Katie, Anne, Mary and Doris, along with nieces and nephews. Mom was born in Landerville on September 17, 1917 growing up on the farm. She married Nick Gurniak and together they raised their three children in Lac du Bonnet. Mom was a hard worker, had a huge garden and enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. She had boarders for several years and also worked at Casey's Inn and the Lakeview Hotel. Mom and Dad travelled to Mexico and Nashville - trips that they both enjoyed. Nellie later married her second husband Dan Okrainec and they too did some travelling throughout the western provinces. Nellie enjoyed spending time at the Lac du Bonnet Pioneer Club playing cards, shuffleboard and just being with friends. She later moved to the Bonny Vista Lodge in Lac du Bonnet where she enjoyed many friendships and was very independent. There are some beautiful things in our world and our Mom was one of them. She was active, caring and loved life - as she would say "I am going to live until I Die". We will miss you Mom - "Rest In Peace". The family thanks Dr. Bruneau and staff at the Pinawa Hospital for their kindness and caring, the caregivers at the Bonny Vista Lodge, and thanks to Joan Beznoski and a special thank-you to Ruth Monych who went above and beyond in helping Mom. With respect for Nellie's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial service at the Lac du Bonnet Pioneer Club at a later date.
