VIOLET MARGARET ALLWOOD March 12, 1921 - January 4, 2015 The family announces the peaceful but sudden passing of Violet Allwood at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 93 years. She was predeceased by her husband Stanley, daughter Carrie, brother Henry "Hank" Evett, twin sister Jessie Hiebert, sister Iona Spaulding, and son-in-law Paul Futros. She is survived by children Larry (Helen) Allwood, Marilyn Futros, Laraine Topping, Patricia (Warren) Shalay, Christine (David) Murray, Tanis (Rick) Erhart; grandchildren Lara-Lea (Dale), Christopher (Cara), Emily (Brian), Erica (Jay), Chris; Trevor (Joleen), Melanie (Frank), Kevin (Jenine), Angela (A.J), Adam (Andrea), David (Christina), Correy, Kelsey, Taylor, Ilia (Chris), Sean (Kayla), Kyle (Rikki), and Nick; great grandchildren, Riley, Steffanie, Austin, Sierra, Jasmine, Charlie, Iyla, Gwendolyn, Jack, Jonah, Natalie, Ethan, Zachary, Noah, Isaac, Elliot, Nathan, Mason, Brody, Brooke, and Jayda; as well as numerous nieces and nephews Mom was born in Winnipeg, raised in Elmwood, and she married Dad in 1942. They spent most of their lives in Winnipeg with the exception of the war years when they spent some time at the Gimli, Portage la Prairie and Winnipeg air bases while Dad was in the R.C.A.F. repairing aircraft. From 1944 to 1963 they had seven children and throughout those years and beyond, mom's primary job was as a homemaker taking on all of the responsibilities of raising children and all of the associated homemaking tasks. She became an exceptional cook and baker. She toiled tirelessly throughout these years and even managed to indulge extensively in sewing and knitting, two creative arts that she really enjoyed. Mom excelled in sewing and after all children were in school she entered the work force and took on positions as a seamstress for a jean factory and also for MTC for their costumes. And, in later years she took on part time sales positions with Kmart. One of her greatest loves was the presence of family, whether it was a family gathering or simply a one on one. She was a devoted wife and a wonderful mother and grandmother. She will share a special place in our hearts forever. Violet was a resident in the Misericordia Interim Care Home for the past one and a half years. The family extends a sincere thank you to all staff members of the Cedar Grove unit for the personal care provided to Violet. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Misericordia Health Centre Foundation, 99 Cornish Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 1A2 in her memory would be greatly appreciated.
