Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN ZUK March 2, 1922 - January 7, 2015 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of John Zuk. Born in Ukraine March 2, 1922, he served in the Second World War in the Polish Army. After the war he lived in Germany and England before immigrating to Canada in 1949 by being sponsored by Mike Horbul and his wife Jean, friends from Stuartburn. John worked for the CNR until he retired at age 65. Upon his arrival in Canada, John was involved with many Ukrainian organizations such as Institute Prosvita as an Executive member and bingo manager for 30 years, Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Cathedral, and supporter of Oseredok, CYM, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 141, as well as numerous other organizations. John was predeceased by his parents, Paraskevia and Hryhorij; brother Michael; sister Hanna; sister-in-law Paraska; nephew John; cousins Steve Bahry and his wife Valentina; dear friends Maria Artysko, Michael Prystupa and Harry and Anna Zuk. John is survived by numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and Ukraine and numerous dear friends. John was a hard worker all his life. He loved flowers and gardening, and with his green thumb, everything would grow for him. He enjoyed talking with and visiting with friends. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 14 at Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating. John was my next door neighbour when I moved onto Boyd Ave, and he was a delightfully stubborn gent - up on a ladder cleaning his eavestroughs - in his mid-80s!! I was the lucky beneficiary of his green thumb, both with zucchinis in the fall and when he moved he gave me some of his beautiful geraniums. Every spring he would plant them in the front flower bed and then bring them in for the winter. Glad to have met him. - Posted by: Kali (Neighbour) on: Jan 13, 2015
