LEONTINE RASMUSSEN (ZASTRE) Leontine (Lee) Rasmussen passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks General Hospital on January 10, 2015. Lee was born on October 22, 1926 and lived a joyful life full of family and many friends. Lee was predeceased by her husband John. Surviving Lee are her five children: Ron (Enid), Lee, Edgar, Don (Shelley), and Clayton (Arleen); eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren and her brother John. Born and raised in Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba Lee was part of a large family with roots deep in her community and in Manitoba. Having witnessed the hard years of the Depression and the Second World War, she obtained a strength and resilience that served her and those around her throughout her life. The lives of her family were enriched by her commitment, hard work and loving self-sacrifice. In turn, Lee gained much joy and satisfaction from the lives of her children and large extended family. A wide circle of friends, whether gained through her long-time association with the Victoria Curling Club or through service with the Royal Canadian Legion Brooklands and Weston Branch No. 2 also gave her happiness and fulfillment. Lee's last years were made difficult by the ravages of cancer. She was characteristically and unfailingly stoic in facing that disease. Lee was provided with the utmost in care and compassion by a large group of medical professionals that included: Dr. Harris and her colleagues at Grace Cancer Care; Marcia of the Home Care Program; Cori, Liz and their colleagues of the Palliative Care Program; and Dr. St. Godard, Dr. Braun and the nursing staff of Seven Oaks General Hospital on the 5th Floor U2 and U1. Lee's family extends its profound gratitude to them for her care. A Memorial Service celebrating Lee's life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Brooklands and Weston Branch No. 2, 1613 Logan Avenue, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2015. A private family ceremony of interment for Lee (and John) will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to Grace Cancer Care or to CancerCare Manitoba may be made. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044

  • I will miss Aunty Leontine's dancing. Whenever my dad (her brother Philip) would play the fiddle; she always wanted him to play the Red River Jig, whether it was at dances or in mom and dad's kitchen; she would get up and dance the jig. Not many could outdo her when she was dancing and would always laugh and have a smile for everyone. RIP ma tante and you will never be forgotten! - Posted by: Clairette (Zastre) Zaleski, Barry, and Ron (niece) on: Jan 14, 2015

  • I have such fond memories of Lee from my youth. Lee had an infectious laugh and always enjoyed a good story. We conspired (in a good way) to keep secrets that were not for my parent's ears. I appreciated being invited to watch her sons play baseball and really enjoyed the games. I recall Lee and her family being so genuine; I felt like part of the family. I am saddened to hear about the loss of Lee. My heartfelt condolences to her family. I thought of her often over the years. She was a role model for me. I will never forget her. - Posted by: Ian Barnes () on: Jan 14, 2015

  • My heartfelt condolences to Lee's family. I have the fondest memories of her as the most selfless, patient and loving person. She taught me how to sew (as I was hopeless) when I was in grade 8, giving up her time to devote to this in her home. She also sewed beautiful clothes for my Barbie! Lee listened with undivided attention to all of my "problems" as an adolescent, and shared with enthusiasm any recipe that I would ask her advice on. Our family adored her. She often spoke of her family with such fondness and love, and we were privileged to meet them. Lee was so kind and good-natured, and I am so happy to know that she had a full and rich life, loved and was loved. May her memory be a blessing. With much fondness, Enid Barnes. - Posted by: Enid Barnes () on: Jan 14, 2015
