JAMES (JIM) SCHROFEL It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden death of James (Jim) Schrofel on Tuesday, January 20, 2015. Jim was predeceased by his father Dennis, his Uncle Norbert and Aunt Eleanor Patscha. Jim is survived by his mother Suzanne, brother John (Marcia), brother Robert (Christine) and his nephews and niece, Rhett, Jackson, Adam, Erik and Kate. He is also survived by his Aunt Brenda and Uncle John Miller, Uncle Danny and Aunt Lorraine Coyle, and his cousins, Mark (Tamara) and Glenn (Anna) Patscha, Brian and Angie Miller, and Richard and Diane Coyle. Jim was born September 6, 1974 in Winnipeg. He attended schools in the St. James Assiniboia School Division, graduating from Westwood Collegiate. After graduation, Jim worked for a period of time at the St. James School Board Office. Jim was currently employed at Wainbe (formerly Mid-West Hydraulics). For the last 19 years, his greatest joy was working as the manager of the University of Winnipeg Wesmen Women's Basketball team. His commitment to this program was such that he would sometimes miss family functions to attend a practice or game. He was a loyal and steadfast member of the team and would wear his Wesmen jacket and shoes with immense pride. The family would like to thank head coach Tanya McKay, the players and coaches who have worked with Jim over the years and the booster club members for providing Jim with a home away from home. Over the years, Jim faced many challenges. It was through the kindness and support of the many wonderful teachers, family, friends and co-workers, that allowed Jim to grow as a person and shine. A special thank you to the anonymous 911 caller for coming to Jim's assistance in his moment of need and to the Fire and Paramedic Crew who attended to him. Our deepest thanks and admiration to the awesome people who work in the Emergency Room, Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and the Organ Donation Program at the Health Sciences Center. In Jim's honour, please consider registering as an organ donor. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed John XXIII Parish, 3390 Portage Avenue. Those who wish, can make a donation to the University of Winnipeg Wesmen Women's Basketball Program through the University of Winnipeg Foundation or to a charity of their choice. 204-586-8044

  • I first met Jim working at the School Division. He used to work for the testing dept and used the photocopiers for a good portion of that position. At my new position, I did too. We eventually worked out a system and I made sure that I did not use both copiers when he was due to begin work and filled his full of paper. :) Jim was funny, kind, thoughtful, smart and happy. I will miss his funny facebook comments and his smile and big heart. My thoughts are with his family at this time. - Posted by: Alison Hunt (coworker and friend) on: Jan 26, 2015

Your unselfish generosity of donating his organs giving hope to other families in your own time of grief is such a beautiful act of love. I'm sure it reflected James caring personality. May this gift to others bring comfort as you know James is in the loving embrace of his Saviour and reunited with his best friend and dad, Denis. • Jimmy was one of a kind! He was a fantastic writer who always kept me up to date on the goings on with my family and the Schrofel's. Whenever I was far away it was Jimmy who kept me connected to home. He attended all our get togethers and was often the last to leave.... He also coordinated many get togethers to keep me connected with Dennis and Suzanne or Glenn and Anna when they came to town and I am so grateful for that! His quiet presence, smiling at all the stories, will be missed immensely. A big hug to all from San Diego....RIP Jim! - Posted by: Nicole Laping (Friend) on: Jan 24, 2015
