ALEXANDROS (ALEX) VAILAS It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sad passing of Alex Vailas at age 76 on Sunday, January 25, 2015. Alex leaves behind his beautiful wife Eleni Vailas, two children Terry Vailas and Pat Zastre-Vailas, his three grandchildren Eleni, Dylan and Alexa, brother Kostas (Karen) Vailas, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Popi. Alex was born on November 17, 1938 in Athens (Peria), Greece. He made his way to Montreal, Canada in 1964 where he met his wife, Eleni, of 50 years. In 1970 Alex moved with his family to Winnipeg, MB and from there it remained home. He worked most of his life as a cook, and from there started his own business "Alex's Restaurant" located on Corydon Avenue, which he had for many years. After his restaurant career, he took an early retirement to be the world's greatest grandfather / babysitter to his grandchildren. A special thanks to Oakview Place. Alex will be forever missed and in our hearts. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, January 29 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Ave. with interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery.
