MARION (MART) CEBULA Peacefully on Sunday, February 1, 2015, Marion (Mart) Cebula passed away with his loving family at his side. Mart was born in the Republic of Poland on February 24, 1922. He immigrated to Canada with his family on July 26, 1930. He served in the Winnipeg Rifles/Little Black Devils as a sniper in the Second World War. After the war he spent a few years in England recovering from his injuries and then travelling. Once he returned to Canada he ran the family farm in Kilkenny, MB, for several years and helped raise his two younger sisters. He then relocated to Winnipeg and worked for CN Rail and later Coldstream Refrigeration for 25 years. He enjoyed fishing, playing baseball, family camping trips and watching his sons play sports. He was an amazing gardener and tended to his vegetable garden for as long as he was able. His grandchildren will always remember their special time with their Papa helping him with his garden. In his later years he was an avid swimmer and pool shark. His good nature, charisma and beaming smile always made people want to be around him. Mart was predeceased by his parents Henryk and Agnieszka, sisters Vicki and Mary and his brother Chuck. Mart is survived by his dearly beloved wife of 56 years, Donna; his sons Lance and Lane (Char); with his grandchildren or as he called them, "his little poopsies", Kyra and Nia who affectionately called him "Papa". He is also survived by his sisters Sonja (Richard) and Stella (Maurice) of Oregon; his brother Henry (Denise) of Langley, BC; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; his little four legged "boys" Keno and Buddy; and numerous friends and extended family. Funeral service will take place on Monday, February 9, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler at Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg. Pallbearers will be Doug Gordon, Bruce Gascoigne (honourary), Darcy Gascoigne, Pierre Lanctot, Gio Tropea, Mike Harrisko and Barry Pfeifer. Niech spoczywa w pokoju

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • My son Kai and I have been close friends with the Cebula's for many years. I was fortunate to have Donna take care of my son while I worked. We could not have met a nicer and caring family. Kai and I will always remember Mart tending his garden and yard which was immaculate! Many times in the summer, I would pick up Kai and he would be in the back yard eating garlic sausage and green onions with Mart and loving every minute. Donna, Lance and Lane may your memories help comfort you during this difficult time. We love you! - Posted by: Debbie Lewicki (Family friend) on: Feb 27, 2015

  • Many fond memories of Uncle Mart. - Posted by: R McRoberts (Nephew) on: Feb 09, 2015

  • Donna, Lance, Lane & family, I am so sad to hear about Mart's passing. I remember growing up across the street from your family and recall Mart walking about the neighbourhood, tending a beautiful yard with a ready smile and a wave to all passerbys. As a child, I loved sitting and talking with him on your front porch...he always listened with an eager ear and I'll fondly remember those special times with him. May your memories of a lovely man & a life well lived comfort you all during this sad time. Our thoughts are with you.
