FREDERICK GEORGE GRINHAM September 11, 1928 - February 7, 2015 With family by his side, Fred passed away peacefully at 1:50 p.m. on February 7, 2015. Fred is survived by his children: Allen and wife Debbie (nee Herner), Darla and Gordie (Cox), and Sid and wife Diane (nee Dubois), plus grandchildren Tess, Jason (wife Sorina), Dawnica (husband Alfred), Shawn, Aaron (wife Vanessa), Rebekah, Joel, and Sarah as well as eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews from all across Canada. Fred was the last surviving sibling of his immediate family. Fred was born in Montreal, Canada on September 11, 1928 where he grew up in the heart of Montreal on St. Catherine Street until he was a young man. He moved to Calgary where he met and married his wife Lillian (nee Yarish). After moving to and briefly living in Ottawa, Fred and Lil moved to Winnipeg where they raised their family of three children. Fred worked various jobs including working on a tobacco farm in Southern Ontario, working in heating and ventilation in Ottawa, but finished his working career with Winnipeg Hydro where he retired after 30+ years. Retired in his 50s, Fred and Lil spent many of their autumn years together traveling down south for the winter months (true snowbirds) and locally in Canada in the summer months. Fred and Lil loved few things more than to jump into their camper-van and head down the road to see where it would take them. With little but adventure on their minds and an eternal love for each other in their hearts, they would drive until they felt like stopping. The only thing they loved more than "rambling" was spending time with their family. Sadly, after 57 years of marriage, Lillian passed away on May 29, 2008. Fred continued to live in their home (of 54 years) on Main Street until he was hospitalized in early December due to a stroke. Fred worked hard with the Seven Oaks Hospital staff for several weeks and was making a surprising recovery when he suffered another stroke in early January. Unfortunately, the multiple strokes proved to be more than he could overcome. The family would like to thank the Seven Oaks Hospital staff for the special care and kindness they showed Fred and the family. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2015 in the chapel Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • So long uncle Fred........I will miss your phone calls, your sense of humour, your kindness along with your warm heart but most of all I will miss you and your friendship. - Posted by: Donna Grinham Lewis (Niece) on: Feb 25, 2015

  • Dear Allen, Darla and Sid, I send my sincere condolences to you and your family members. I still think of our Christmas' over the years when we were all kids. Uncle Fred, Uncle Jack, Dad, and sometimes your mother and even Auntie Marion guitar playing, cheating at cards(the women did not cheat!), arguing/debating various topics with not everyone in agreement...lots of memories of those years. When I think of your dad, it is natural to remember his jokes (lots of them off colour) but still always the joker. A handyman that helped my dad many times with jobs in the house especially plumbing type jobs. I know you will all miss him dearly. Hugs to all of you. - Posted by: Lori Webb (Niece) on: Feb 11, 2015

  • What a gentle giant you were Fred. You filled such a void in my life as a teenager who lost her father much too early. YOU always made me feel at home and lifted my spirits. I loved your sense of humor always making me laugh as well as your positive attitude. You will be always in my heart and thoughts. Rest in peace my friend. CHERYL. My sincere sympathy to all the family. 😺😺🌸🌹🌻🌼 🐺 - Posted by: Cheryl Meneer (friend) on: Feb 10, 2015
