ALLYSON AMANDA BRUCE December 31, 1985 - March 18, 2015 It is with tremendous sadness we announce the passing of our loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend Allyson Amanda Bruce. Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at approximately 11:25 a.m., Allyson passed away peacefully at home with her loving family by her side, succumbing to her lifelong struggles associated with living with Cerebral Palsy. She will be remembered always by her mother and father Susan and Jeff Bruce, grandparents Ann and Robert Payne and Earlene Bruce, aunts Roberta O'Halloran, Marla Bruce and Lesley McCombs, uncles Barry Payne, Jack Bruce and Kevin McCombs, cousins Morgan, Ryan, Taylor, Hannah, Cole and Grant Secord, Chelsea O'Halloran, Avery Deleurme, Chris Bruce and Brad, Kyle and Paige McCombs. Allyson was predeceased by her sister Ashley, grandfather Albert Bruce and special uncle Dennis O'Donnell. Born in Winnipeg on December 31, 1985 we knew Allyson was going to be a special little girl. At an early age she was enrolled with the PT/OT department at Children's Hospital then on to Day Program at Children's Rehabilitation Centre. Allyson participated in the Association for the Neurological Disabled Program based out of Calgary for a couple years also. Many volunteers came into the home to exercise her on a daily basis. When she reached school age Allyson attended the neighbourhood schools, Beaumont Elementary, Westdale Junior High and graduated from Shaftesbury High School. After finishing high school Allyson attended DASCH Day Program on Roblin Boulevard, until April, 2014. For the past year, with the assistance of the Palliative Care Program Allyson was able to continue living comfortably at home. Growing up Allyson was a very busy girl. She was able to participate in Riding for the Disabled and took swimming lessons at Bonnie Vital Pool. Mom and Ashley always thanked Ally because they were able to convince Dad we needed a pool for Ally to use at home. Allyson travelled with the family on many trips. She went to Calgary a few times and enjoyed the Stampede on one of those trips. Flew to Florida to take in Disneyworld, Universal Studios, Sea World and Gatorland. Drove to Minneapolis to watch the Blue Jays and then on to Valley Fair Water Park. Followed the Goldeyes not only at Shaw Park but travelled south to watch them play in Fargo, Sioux City and Sioux Falls. Allyson also travelled to Vancouver Island to go whale watching in the Pacific Ocean and then down to Oregon to see Keiko (Free Willy). Allyson loved to listen to music and watch movies, especially with Dad. They could spend hours and hours together watching movies and even days watching series like Jaws, Free Willy and their favourite Pirates of the Caribbean. Over the years Allyson has been able to acquire a huge Beanie Babies collection of which she has many favourites. She always carried one or two of her favourites in the crook of her right arm. Allyson lived a full and rewarding life despite her limitations. Even with all her challenges she brought joy to all with her beautiful smile and infectious laughter. Though we will always wonder how much Allyson took away from her years in school, we do know how much she taught those around her. Her disability was used as an ability to educate others. She taught us about patience, perseverance, how to be advocates, appreciate the simple things in life but mostly how to love with all your heart. "Real Love". We will cherish our precious memories of her forever. Allyson loved her sister Ashley to pieces and we are more at peace knowing that they are together again. Enjoy the little things in life, because one day you will look back, and realize they were the big things. A celebration of Allyson's life will be held Thursday, March 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The WRHA Palliative Care Program c/o Health Sciences Centre Foundation, DASCH Inc., or The Cerebral Palsy Association of Manitoba. Ally, love you to the moon and back
