ROY WALTER HANCOCK August 11, 1932 - March 21, 2015 It is with heavy hearts and deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Roy, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ellen, children, Elizabeth (Wallace), Ronald (Melinda), Bill (Lori), grandchildren, Clayton, Ernie, Marcus, Derek, Garrett, Hunter, Bill Jr., Seth, Malia, and Mitch, great-grandchildren, Jackson and Juliet. Roy is also survived by numerous brothers and sisters-in-law from Nova Scotia. Roy was predeceased by his parents Walter and Elizabeth, sister Sheila, her husband Ross, and niece Leanne. He was born in Hereford, England and came to Canada with his family. At 16 years old Roy joined the Hudson Bay Company. With the R.C.A.F. he was a Communications Technician Ground and High Rigger, stationed at Halifax, Vancouver and Whitehorse. While in Halifax, Roy met the love of his life Ellen McNamara and was married August 31, 1957 in Halifax. After the armed forces Roy was employed by the Canadian Marconi Co. living in Calgary, Winnipeg and Stony Mountain. He retired as co-owner of R and R Communications in 1987. Roy was a devoted Legion Member. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, travelling, judo, and his greatest joy was getting together with friends and family. Thanks to doctors and staff at Stonewall Hospital, CancerCare, Stonewall Pharmacy, and all the hard working Home Care, Palliative and Respite Staff. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or St. Joseph Parish Stony Mountain, MB. The funeral will be held on Friday, March 27 at 11:00 a.m., MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall, 204-467-2525, mackhome@mts.net.

  • I had the pleasure of sharing Sunday dinners for many years with the Hancock family. Mrs. Hancock always filled the table with delicious, home-cooked food and Mr. Hancock always filled the kitchen with good humour and laughs! We laughed until our bellies ached!
