MARIA WEISE (nee PENNER) It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, Mutti, Omi, and Omi-mi on Thursday April 2, 2015. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 68 years, Gerhard, children Henry (Karin), Marianne (Gord Sobie), Werner (Mary Ann). She will also be missed by her grandchildren Christina (J.P.), Melanie (Leon), Kristin (Nathan), Alan (Alaina), Marina (Sean), Matthew as well as her precious great-grandchildren Cora, Ani, Xavier, Helena, Bettina, Louen, Ella, Mia, Rebecca and Johanna. She is also survived by sisters Erna and Leni and families in Germany; brother-in-law Heinz (Erna) and family of Winnipeg. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family and big family birthday parties with gifts of birthday Kuchen and hand-knit sweaters were a constant. She loved baking, knitting, singing, doing crossword puzzles, volunteering at the MCC thrift store and babysitting her grandchildren, including her honorary grandchild Joe Friesen. Maria also enjoyed the fellowship of her friends, who could be found in her kitchen chatting over coffee and Streusel Kuchen or in her later years getting together over breakfast once a month. Her loving and nurturing spirit will be missed by us all. A special thank you is extended to the staff of Concordia Hospital for their kindness and compassionate care. Service will be held at Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church, 926 Garfield Street on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with viewing prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maria's memory to Mennonite Central Committee.

  • I remember your mom as a wonderful friendly lady, very hospitable and loving. My mom and dad, George and Justina Neufeld, visited with your mom and dad many times. May you find comfort and peace at this difficult time. - Posted by: George and Linda Buhler (distant relative ) on: Apr 06, 2015
