He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. John was predeceased by his son, Mark in 2011 and a daughter-in-law, Doris in 2000. John was born in the Ratner district of Saskatchewan. When John was five his parents moved to Edrans, Manitoba followed by a move to the family farm northwest of Austin in 1941. John attended Forestville School until age 14 and then spent several years working for various area farmers. At 21, while living and working in Winnipeg, John met his future wife, Anna. Anna and John were married on June 19, 1955 and lived in Winnipeg until 1968 when the family moved to a farm near Hazelridge. John enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. John worked at Canada Packers until his retirement in 1988. After retirement John kept himself busy on the farm and with his grain transport business. John enjoyed repairing farm machinery and small engines and could usually be found working on a project in his machine shed. John was also an avid moose hunter and loved ice fishing. John fought back courageously and without complaint until the early morning hours of April 4, 2015 when God took him to his heavenly home. "The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen." 2 Timothy 4:18 (New International Version) A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 13, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Oakbank Baptist Church, 26033 Springfield Road, Oakbank, Manitoba.
