HENRY LEONARD OLSON Peacefully, with his daughter Lynnette by his side, Henry passed away at the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home at the age of 102. Henry was born in Danvers, Manitoba on July 19, 1912, the fourth of 10 children born to Christian and Alma Olsen. He was the last surviving member of his family. Dad was a family man first and foremost, always making sure he provided for Mom and us. He served as a veteran during the Second World War, along with three of his brothers. He was a skilled carpenter and a jack-of-all-trades, including peanut butter fudge making! Dad worked for Harper Construction while living in Winnipeg and in 1963, moved to Pinawa where he was employed by AECL until his retirement in 1977. In retirement, he took up golf and was able to enjoy it until the age of 88. He and Mom were able to travel to various locations over the years. When Mom developed dementia, he became her caregiver, a job he did exceptionally well. When they were no longer able to live in their home, they moved to Lac du Bonnet, Dad to Bonny Vista and Mom to the Personal Care Home where Dad eventually moved to as well in November 2013. We will always remember his smirk, great smile and quick sense of humour. He will be greatly missed by his son Floyd (Peggy) Olson; his daughters, Lynnette (Robert) Bruneau and Lorise Gilchrist; his grandchildren, Kim (Jim) Coady, Kerry (Jeff) Trager, Calvin (Alexis) Bruneau, Bobbie Pelland, Sara (Barret) Smith, Kiera Gilchrist, Leah Gilchrist and 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Helen, his daughter-in-law Linda, his son-in-law Dale, as well as many other relatives. We would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home for their excellent care of our Dad. A small service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in his memory to Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home, 75 McIntosh St., P.O. Box 1030, Lac du Bonnet, MB R0E 1A0. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Floyd, Lynnette and Lorise, I am sorry to hear of the death of your father. He and your family had many connections to ours - he worked with both my grandfather and my father at Harper Construction, and then we were all in Pinawa together. My grandmother always enjoyed visiting with your parents in Pinawa when she came to visit us. Ralph and I saw your dad a few years ago in Lac Du Bonnet, and were very impressed with his health and stamina at 98, and even more impressed when he came to my dad's funeral the next year. He had a good long life, and I hope your many memories of him will help you through his loss. - Posted by: Patricia Curtis (friend) on: Apr 29, 2015
