Date of Passing: Apr 14, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPAUL FREDERICK CHEOP July 14, 1938 - April 14, 2015 On April 14, 2015, a sunny Tuesday afternoon, Paul Cheop, beloved son, brother, uncle, father and grandfather passed away. Paul is survived by his son Sean (Kristy), grandchildren Cadel and Stella, and brother Frank (Elayne) and family, Aunt Nell Rumak, and close friend Agnes Goertzen. He was predeceased by his wife Hedy, daughter Barb and parents Frank and Mary Cheop. Paul was born in Beausejour in 1938, grew up in Kenora and eventually moved to Steinbach to practice Pharmacy at Bethesda Hospital. There, he met Hedy who eventually became his loving wife, and mother to their two children. The loss of their daughter Barb in 1982 was a tragedy to the family, which Paul faced with remarkable strength. Honoring his young daughter, he established a high school track scholarship that continues to be awarded today. Paul was a dedicated life-long learner with many interests, which expanded in retirement. He enjoyed swimming, socializing, gardening and spending time with close friend Agnes. "Geeg" was adored by his grandchildren, who especially looked forward to time at the pool with him. The family would like to express sincere thanks to Paul's friends and neighbours who looked out for him until the very end. It is appreciated beyond words. A come and go viewing will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2015 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy. 52 W. Steinbach, MB. The memorial service will be held on Monday, April 20, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel. Ash interment will follow at Memorial Cemetery, Steinbach, MB. I recently learned of Pauls passing. I attended the pool early a few weeks ago with hope of catching up. I had a Winnipeg Jet program for him. For the past several years our paths crossed at the pool. Paul and I enjoyed chatting about the Winnipeg Jets. He was a sweet gentleman and I will miss him. My thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Gail Komadoski (Swimming Friend) on: Nov 17, 2015

Sean and family, I am so sorry about your loss. I had just heard the news and I am so sorry as well that I missed the funeral to give my condolences in person. Mr. Cheop, that is how I have always known him, will always be remembered fondly by me. May God bless you and give you peace that only His Holy Spirit can bring. - Posted by: Greg Recksiedler (Friend) on: Apr 21, 2015

Although I never got to work directly with Paul in the capacity of a pharmacist, his legacy at Bethesda Hospital was the framework for us to enter into when we started to provide the service there. I had many opportunities to meet and chat with Paul over the years and he continued to have an interest in the profession he loved and always had an opinion to share which I appreciated. Over the past years, when I would see Sean (and Kristy) occasionally at triathlon/Duathlon events, it was an opportunity to chat a bit about Paul and the family ... I appeciated that! A verse to share with Sean, Kristy and family ... 2 Timothy 4 verse 6-8 ... "For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing." Take care, Hans Epp, Pharmacist. Steinbach - Posted by: Hans Epp (Colleague) on: Apr 20, 2015

My condolences to Paul's family. Paul was a long term, regular customer of mine at the Steinbach Aquatic Centre. I have appreciated getting to know him over the last 12 years. Thinking of you during this difficult time. - Posted by: Bev Enns () on: Apr 17, 2015
