I met Helmut walking my first dog Sasha. We were new to the neighborhood (we lived on Clifton) he lived on Spruce. My dog Sasha wasn't used to other dogs yet but loved Max (Maxi) Helmut's dog on sight. They were like star crossed lovers. They played so well together and I once actually saw them be about 30 ft away from each other. I let Sasha off her leash and he let Max off and they ran to each other and literally embraced the only way dogs do.......by sniffing every inch. Tails wagging the whole time. Sasha and I would often pop by Hemmuts' so the dogs could see each other. He always made us welcome. We even dressed up for Halloween. Neither of us had kids except our dogs were our kids. I'd make up little doggy treat bags and dress Sasha up as (a biker chick leather jacket) (as Dumbledore purple velvet cape) (a ladybug dollar store) . We'd have a fun time. Our dogs brought us together but he was a good friend. After my marriage broke up we moved 2 blocks away. We tried to keep in touch but my new job was longer hours and farther away. We grew apart. I'm sorry he's gone. - Posted by: Kimberley La Fleur (Dog walking friend) on: Jul 27, 2025

I never really knew Mr. Raske. I always saw him walking his dog. I remember one time when I was locked out of my gate, he saw me, and let me go through his house, that was kind of him. I might be late on realizing his passing. When his relatives were cleaning out his garage, they decided to put his bike on the back lane, my dad saw it, fixed it up. I now use the bike, and I would just like to say, Thank You. And I noticed that Helmut wrote his name on the bell and other parts of the bike. I believe that his legacy is in the bike. Papa Bless. - Posted by: Russian Banados (Neighbour) on: Jul 10, 2016

I enjoyed hearing Helmut share some of the stories of his youth. He shared a heritage with my own parents and I hope he's found the mountains that he so loved! - Posted by: Gabriele Goldstone (volunteer/visitor) on: May 18, 2015
