JUSTINA BAERG Justina Baerg was born on April 18, 1922 in Gnadental, Ukraine, the fifth of 10 children born to Johann J. and Justina Schellenberg (nee Rempel). She died on April 29, 2015 at the Donwood Manor Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, Canada. Political unrest and oppression, economic hardship and search of religious freedom led her parents to immigrate to Canada. They purchased a farm in Gnadental, Manitoba, beginning their new life with ongoing hope and faith in God. Justina received her primary education in a one room schoolhouse, attended high school in Winkler, and continued her education at the Winkler Bible School; she also attended and graduated from Success Commercial College. In November, 1948 she married Heinrich Baerg. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Lorna Ruth and Elaine Virginia. They settled in Winnipeg, making this their permanent home. To supplement the family income Justina initially worked as a secretary and later developed a career in sales both in real estate and in educational books. In 1972, Justina left her job with a secure income and began a new career as a volunteer with Mennonite Central Committee. At the age of 18 years Justina was baptized upon the confession of her faith and received into the membership of the Blumenort Mennonite Church in Rosetown, Manitoba. Later on, both she and Henry were active members in both the Springfield Heights Mennonite and Douglas Mennonite Churches. Mother was admitted to the Donwood Personal Care Home in 2013. As a family we are most grateful to Dr. Doermer and the entire staff at Donwood Manor for their wonderful care of our mother. Justina was predeceased by her husband, Henry, five brothers, two sisters and by her parents Johann and Justina Schellenberg. She is survived by two daughters with their husbands: Lorna and Hans Boge, Elaine and Peter Martens ; seven grandchildren and 12 great -grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, one brother and their spouses, two sisters-in- law, 1 brother-in law and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral service will be held Monday, May 11, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Springfield Height Mennonite Church, 570 Sharon Bay. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
