DIANE SMITH (nee LAPLUME) On April 30, 2015, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, Diane passed away with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her father Louis, brother-in-law Terry, and sister-in-law Dianne. She leaves to mourn her husband Wayne, and three sons Ryan, Jason (Kristina) and Ian. Also her mother Marie Paule and two brothers Paul (Adrienne) and Mark (Roseann). Diane grew up in Transcona and attended St. Joseph's the Worker, John Gunn and TCI schools. Diane married Wayne in 1977. She worked at Investors until 1982. Afterwards she enjoyed being a stay at home mom with her first born. She was involved in all their school and scouting activities. In later years she worked a term position every spring for 20 years at Canada Revenue Agency. Then, she worked as a teaching assistant in the River East School Division at Polson and Salisbury Morse Place Schools. She loved her work and made lasting friendships. Diane loved animals from her guinea pigs to eventually becoming a foster parent for the Winnipeg Humane Society for 17 years. She will be sadly missed by her cat Butch. She loved to travel with her family to parts of Canada in the summer; later travelling to Europe, Cuba, and Mexico. Diane and family would like to thank all her friends and family for their love, support and prayers throughout her illness. They made her laugh and gave her the strength she needed to courageously fight this battle. Special thanks to her friends Barb, Gail, Diane, Donna, and Kelly for always being there. Also Simone and Mark for all the wonderful adventures. To Dr. Lotocki and the staff at CancerCare St. Boniface unit, thanks for her great care over the last few years and to the Palliative Care at the Women's Hospital in the last few weeks. Have a safe journey Diane... We will always love and cherish you. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Winnipeg Humane Society or the Canadian Cancer Society of Manitoba in Diane's name. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Parish, 264 Donwood Drive, Winnipeg.
