STEVE DOMITRUK On Friday, May 8, 2015 with his son at his side, Steve passed away at the age of 77. The excellent care provided by the amazing staff at Riverview Health Centre allowed Steve to leave this life with dignity following a courageous battle with cancer. Steve was born in Vita, Manitoba, to Anne and Paul Domitruk, on October 20, 1937, the youngest of six children. Though times on the farm were not always easy, Steve always spoke of his early years with fondness and pride. In 1957, Steve left home and headed to Winnipeg in search of work. He worked briefly at Winnipeg Supply and Brooke Bond. In 1960, Steve got a job at Silverwood Dairies. This turned out to be a 38 year career in the dairy industry, the majority of which was spent in sales. Along the journey of life, Steve met an amazing woman, Jean. They were married in 1963 and shared 45 years together as a loyal couple, devoted parents and loving grandparents. This is what Steve was most proud of. Steve was predeceased by his wife Jean, parents Anne and Paul Domitruk, brothers Maurice Phillips, Tommy and Willie Domitruk, and in-laws Mary and Peter Peleshok. He will be sadly missed by son Jeff (Mary), "Grandpa's boy" grandson Zac, brother John "Curly" (Fran) Domitruk, sister Florence (Irv) Christjanson, sisters-in-law Olga (Cliff) Barth and Audrey (Charlie) Couch, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The family would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff of the Health Sciences Centre and CancerCare (HSC) for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Steve during his illness. As well, thanks to the dedicated staff of the community palliative care program who gave Steve the confidence and assistance to remain at home until it was no longer possible. Finally, the family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, healthcare aides and support staff of Ward 3 East, Palliative Care at Riverview Health Centre. The family had the privilege of witnessing the amazing care, compassion, and love that went into making Steve's final days comfortable and dignified. We are forever grateful. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, May 13 at 7:00 p.m., and funeral service on Thursday, May 14 at 10:00 a.m., with Father Michael Skrumeda presiding. Both events will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy. #1 East at Navin Road. Pallbearers will be Daryl and Chris Domitruk, Glen Christjanson, Dean Barth, Gord Henrikson and Dan Bydak. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba (HSC), Riverview Health Centre Foundation, care of Palliative Care, or the Winnipeg Humane Society.
