Condolences & Memories (13 entries)

  • I just found out this week of Marys passing, I am truly broken hearted and extremely sad at her passing. I got to know Mary through a co worker as she was looking for a seamstress, my friend Paula recommended me. As soon as we started talking Mary and I were like old friends....she made you feel like you always knew her. Over the years she came to see me with anything she needed fixing, hemming or made and I was lucky enough to further get to know this kind and gentle soul. Last time I saw her was to tighten clothes as she was loosing weight because her cancer was back. Even though she was ill she gave me the courage and strength to face knee replacement surgery, this last visit was special with a few tears, a bit of laughter, talk of faith and just plain old friends sharing and caring love. I will miss her kindness and care, her laughter and just talking to her. May god, the angels and saints bless her and keep her near them and may she rest in eternal peace. Deepest sympathy to her husband(who she kept saying was so good to her and treated her so very very well) and to her children and extended family. The world lost a beautiful soul but heaven gained an angel! I will miss you my friend.....XOXO - Posted by: Lucia cabral and family (Friend) on: Jun 08, 2015

  • Marusia was a true friend to our family, especially to my parents. Her wide smile and sunny no-nonsense attitude were always welcome on Matheson Avenue, my parents' home in Winnipeg. She was a worker--for her family, her friends and her community. She will be sorely missed. Vichnaya pamiat! - Posted by: Oksana Richards (friend) on: May 15, 2015

  • I wrote a story for the Ukrainian Progress, mentioning my maternal grandparents' names, and stating I was travel to Ukraine to see if I could find where they had lived. Mary called me to advise her Mother and my grandmother were from the same village of Nyvitsi, and asked if I knew I had relatives there. She not only arranged for me to meet my relatives, but also arranged for a translator as I hadn't spoken Ukrainian in 40 years. After many emails and phone calls, we finally met and it was as if I had known her all my life. When Mary went to visit her relatives in Nyvitsi later that same year, she offered to take my cousin's wedding gift with her as she was afraid it might not arrive if I mailed it. When we were planning a future get together, Mary told me she had cancer but we plan to meet again once she felt better. Unfortunately, that was not to be. Mary had the biggest heart (and baked the best pies!!) I could not thank her enough for being a part of my life. Mary may be gone, but she will never be forgotten. - Posted by: Christine Ward (Friend) on: May 15, 2015

  • Mary and I know each other from Pani Huk's Sadochok. Our children attended together. No other parent worked with such enthusiasm as Mary. She was up from everything and anything. Always a big smile. My prayers are with her family. Rest now. You will be missed. - Posted by: Vera matwichyna (friend) on: May 14, 2015

  • Mary was truly special to me. I have many fond memories of her going all the way back to when I was a child. She had a way of making me feel very special and worthy of an adult's attention. This was her way with people, always putting them first and making everyone feel her warmth and compassion. Although I now live far away I have thought of her often over the years and will miss her kindness. She will be missed terribly by all who knew her. - Posted by: Slawko Wyshnowsky (Friend) on: May 14, 2015
