Maurice was born in Montreal, QC to Edouard Labelle and Célanise Labossière on December 22, 1920. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Antonia Mousseau; daughters Micheline (Marcel) and Mariette and son Jean-Maurice; grandchildren, Alison, Jai, Rajah and Geneviève; and his sisters Denise, Jeanne-Berthe and Murielle residing in Montreal and other family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Roland and sisters Cecile and Henriette. Upon arriving in Winnipeg in the 1950's from Montreal, after spending some time in Northern Manitoba, Maurice started his career as an Electrician at the Misericordia Hospital where he met the love of his life, Antonia, and were married in 1956. He then pursued a career as an Electrical Engineering Instructor at Red River College to be later promoted as one of its Administrators. He was very involved in the French community and founded La Caisse populaire du Parc Windsor (Credit Union) and co-founded the parish Saints-Martyrs-Canadiens. His sense of adventure and curiosity would lead him to organize long family road trips across Canada and the U.S. during the summer months. Upon retirement, after a memorable trip to Europe with his wife, he went back to school at the University of Manitoba to study Horticulture and became a Master Gardener, a hobby which he passionately undertook throughout his retirement. He also took on Genealogical research leading to several publications and participated actively in the francophone historic society La Société historique de Saint-Boniface. Prayers and viewing will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy. 1 East at Navin Rd, at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4. A funeral mass will be held at La Paroisse des Saints-Martyrs-Canadiens in St. Boniface, 289 Dussault Ave., at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 5, followed by a light lunch and interment at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, support staff and volunteers at Laurier Manor and the Montfort Hospital in Ottawa for all their care and hard work. Antonia would like to thank whole-heartedly Father Yves Marchildon of Annunciation of the Lord Parish, in Ottawa, for taking the time to come to the nursing home to administer Maurice's last rites. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Maurice's cherished regular destination in Montreal, the Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal, www.saint-joseph.org.
