IGINO (GINO) GRESTONI July 10, 1926 - May 25, 2015 With great sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of Igino Grestoni, husband, Babbo and Nonno. Gino was predeceased by his parents, Francesca and Domenico Grestoni; his sister Osvalda; brothers, Gilberto and Mario. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Caterina; daughters, Graziella (Ed), Natalina (James), Francesca (Lyle), Carla (Randall) and Norina; grandchildren, Lynne, Kevin, Jordan (Genaro), Christopher (Hayley), Randy (Roxanne), Tara, Daniel and Jack; also great- grandchildren, Alix, Savannah, Jaiyden, Lincoln and Joseph. Gino was born in Trapozzo, Italy, where as a child he met his wife-to-be. He worked on the family farm throughout his young life to provide for his parents and family. Gino served in the Italian army in the Second World War for a short period of time. In 1953, a young man of 27, he immigrated to Canada in search of a more prosperous future for his wife and young children. Caterina and their two baby daughters, Graziella and Natalina, would arrive a short time later. Once in Canada, Gino worked diligently in the tile setting industry and was able to establish himself as a reputable, sought after contractor, forming his own company, Grestoni Tiling Limited. He retired at the age of 65 and had treasured the past 23 years with family and friends. He enjoyed playing bocce, bowling, card games, and tending to his garden and home. Babbo appreciated the simple things in life and has always had a quiet, peaceful character, which he has passed onto his children. He passionately told stories of his life in the Old Country, never forgetting his roots and returning often to visit. Babbo, we will be forever grateful for showing and teaching us the value of close family relationships. You will always be remembered as a patient, honorable man who was devoted and generous to his wife and family. Your children will continue to look after your Seniora, Caterina, providing her the care and comfort you have shown her throughout your married life. You will be forever missed. Ti amo tanto mio caro marito, riposa in pace. The service will be held Monday, June 1, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Road. A private family interment will be held following the reception. Many thanks to the staff at 3E, Riverview Health Centre for their care and compassion. Donations may be made to the Parkinson's Society of Manitoba or CancerCare Manitoba.
