Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOAN MARY SCHAEFER (previously THURLBECK) (nee WELLNITZ) It is with sadness that the family of Joan Schaefer announces her passing on June 3, 2015 at Concordia Hospital Winnipeg. Joan will be lovingly remembered by her husband John Arnold Schaefer, her children Gregg Thurlbeck, Tracy (Angelo) Macchia, and Jeff (Caroline) Thurlbeck, stepchildren Lloyd (Gina) Schaefer and Ian (Julie) Schaefer, grandchildren Kalyna, Luka, Elorie, Dylan, Sara (Colin), Daniel, Adam, and Ryanne (Sean), and great-grandchildren Declan and Emmett. Joan was predeceased by her husband Ralph Cyril Thurlbeck. The family would like to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital and Lions Manor for their care and compassion shown to Joan. A Celebration of Joan's Life will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. In lieu of flowers donations in Joan's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice. Dear Jeff, Caroline and family! I was so saddened to hear of your mother's passing! I am sorry I wasn't there for you! We grew up together and shared so many memories which I will cherish forever!! I will always remember the coins your mom would put in your birthday cupcakes that we all loved so much! Please accept my sincere sympathies and know you are in my thoughts and prayers! Joan and Arnold are dear family friends, through Atlantic Garden City United Church. I am the eldest daughter of Ed and Marney Scribner and moved to Illinois in 1999. Joan was always a shining light, warm, well-organized as the Events committee chair and I especially enjoyed singing Tenor with her in the choir. MANY happy, cherished memories!
